Chapter 10. Arc 1.5 Who are you

If you enjoyed this chapter, vote, comment, and add!

My there's a nice thing coming in like 2 chapters or so, I hope I'll be able to write it properly. (๑•́‧̫•̀๑) No spoilers (:X)

I'm thinking about making chapters shorter (~1000 words/chapter) and uploading more frequently.

Each chapter has been around 2000 words or 6-7 pages. It's been 9 chapters now so I've written 54-63 pages of bl (omg, I can't believe it).

Reminder:

An Zhen = MC

Mu Cheng = transmigrated MC

The story refers to MC as Mu Cheng when it's from Mu Ran's perspective and An Zhen when it's neutral or MC perspective.

He traced over those dry, parched lips.

This person was Mu Cheng...but at the same time not Mu Cheng. Just thinking about this gave him a massive headache.

Could this be a new Mu Cheng. A sincere and kind Mu Cheng. Could he trust him?

Looking at his face, he could no longer feel the same gushing hatred.

Why did he feel so engrossed by him?

Mu Ran couldn't understand his feelings. He thought the feelings must be due to familial love, but something didn't feel right.

This Mu Cheng felt like a forgotten, torn sleeve from his favorite robes, nostalgic and soothing. Yet, he felt passionate and prickly around him. Perhaps, he hadn't given up on finding an older brother in Mu Cheng.

Mu Ran rubbed his painful forehead. He envied his brother's ability to socialize. Maybe if he was as social as Mu Zhai, then maybe he would understand these emotions. Then, he would be able to interrogate this strange Mu Cheng.

He recalled how strange Mu Cheng acted. Secretly changing his bandages, and neglecting his own injuries to the point of sickness. He wanted to accept that Mu Cheng's heart was sincere, but was there a monster hiding behind that charming mask?

The silver serpent coiled behind the children. It crept and stalked Mu Ran's every motion.

Mu Ran held the knife up high, conflicted by his emotions. They had planned the murder moons ago, one swipe and all their problems would disappear.

'Mu Cheng is a monster. If I don't eliminate him today...'

He went through his thoughts again and again, checking his emotions against the facts over and over again until he was certain. Yet, there was a nagging thought in the back of his mind; was he deciding based on what was best for his brother, or for himself?

No, he had to do this for the both of them.

The prowling snake reared up about to strike.

The dagger descended down on the bronze neck with a piercing sound. It shone and glimmered with the sweet taste of blood.

Mu Ran's determination crumbled along with the strength in his hand. He collapsed into himself. The bloody dagger stained the fur.

The monstrous Mu Cheng was dead.

Threads of blood dripped down the bronze neck, etching a path of red.

He had carved the other boy's skin. Crimson butterflies flew out, exposing a trail from the middle of the neck to the bottom of his right ear. Immediately, he regretted his decision. Try as he might, he could not stop trembling.

Sudden coughs from the slumbering boy woke Mu Ran to his senses. After examining the slash, Mu Ran sighed in relief. Fortunately, the cut was shallow and only skin deep. It did not reach his throat or any major arteries. With trembling hands, Mu Ran gently wrapped a bandage around his neck, treating him like a fragile treasure. He deeply regretted hurting him.

'The monster is dead. I don't know what happened to him, but this person is not Mu Cheng. At least not the Mu Cheng I knew. Ah Zhai won't blame me, right? He'll understand.'

All the tension in his body disappeared.

He finally took notice of an unsettling presence, taken over by an adrenaline rush. He sprung to his feet and whipped around, taking a defensive stance in front of Mu Cheng.

There was nothing there.

After settling down, Mu Ran sat there in complete serenity, a large burden finally lifted off his shoulders. He directed his attention to An Zhen.

"Who are you?" He whispered to himself. The hand had a mind of its own, carefully caressing Mu Cheng's neck.

The tall boy's feet extended past the fur bed. His breathing now settled and deep, had eased Mu Ran's heart.

He saw the soft glow on Mu Cheng's face and remembered the exhilaration he felt by the river.

Mu Ran was perplexed. He remembered Mu Cheng's sun-kissed body. The glow was blinding but he couldn't look away. He was captured by him. He was helpless. That was when the flame started to ignite and surge inside him.

'But why did I feel so hot when I saw him? He said I should be reacting to girls...did he lie to me?'

His eyes followed the sweat dripping down the other boy's slender neck and down his clavicle until it disappeared into his blue robes.

'No, he's too stupid to lie. Maybe there's something special about his body.'

A/N:

Next chapter out soon, this silly author promises! ฅ(๑'Δ'๑)

Mu Ran is the star in this chapter. A prepubescent, curiously, easily stimulated star.

I hope I wrote this okay, I was trying to show the internal conflict and struggles Mu Ran was going through in an attempt to show some character development. It was hard ฅ=͟͟͞͞((;꒪∆꒪;)ฅ

Teaser, not ramble:

He was flustered all the way up to his ears. He needed to get away from Mu Cheng and cool down.

In a panic, the flustered boy tripped on the fur and fell on top of Mu Cheng.
