He Says She Doesn't Care

When she spent time with friends and family,
He said she was never around.
So she left her past behind her,
Shattered and spread upon the ground.
"What is it that you want from me!?"
She shouted with tears in her eyes.
She has done so much more for him,
Than he seems to realize.
She cooks him nice warm meals,
And tries to care for him when he's sick.
Yet she still feels as if,
he hardly appreciates it.
"I want to change, I swear I will
I can make this right."
Are the words he says to her,
After most heated fights.
She closes her eyes and counts to ten,
Knowing where this road leads.
"I know this time will be different," she says,
"Only because he truly does love me."
She turns her back, raises her chin, and puts on a smile
While the voices in her head scream,
"It's time to shut down for a while."
And so she does what the voices say,
Cause no one seems to care.
She whispered under her breath this time,
Not wanting anyone to hear,
"At least this way I'll be around,
Whenever he needs me there."
