In a dark room stood an entity, covered from head to toe in a black cloak that concealed all of its features. Lined up against the wall of a steel CIA bunker were twenty or so agents, all shaking in terror, as they stood unarmed near the intruder. The thing had materialised in front of their eyes half an hour ago, out of thin air, and none could identify it as human. All of the agents happened to be unarmed, most were researchers at the bunker for their internships, as a starting point for their government work.
They were terrified, one even managed to send out a distress signal to the CIA headquarters before the creature took a step towards him. That agent now lay dead on the ground, blood pooling around his head. All the entity did was step towards him and he fell quickly to the ground, blood rushing out from some unseen wound.
The distress signal made its way onto Diana's radar. Over the years, she had been gathering technology to scan databases of US-based military and governmental organisations to receive the distress signals. With time, she had learnt that the US cared very little for their own agents, especially those of a low-rank, and would often leave them to die rather than to sacrifice resources to save lives they deemed 'unworthy' of saving.
With one strong punch, the steel door to the bunker fell off it's hinges and into the dark steel room. The agent's heads snapped up as she entered the room, swinging a golden-hinged sword at her side.
The entity turned from facing the researchers to facing what was the door as she punched it down, a loud 'thud' echoing through the silent bunker. The cloak lifted slightly, revealing a pale purple, twisted and scarred arm to the room. The fingers seemed to be too long for any human, and each was bent in it's own horrific-looking way. With the arm outstretched towards the researchers, they began to look at each other in worry, fear flooding through them, some even beginning to scream hysterically. Diana gasped as the three agents nearest to her suddenly dropped to the floor, their bodies hitting the steel.
Blood soon started to ooze out of their heads too, the red liquid pooling around their bodies rapidly.
She stepped back in shock, as the entity's gnarly-looking arm disappeared back into its cloak. In all her years defending the human race, she had never seen anything that reminded her so strongly of Ares, or of the kryptonian monster created by Lex Luthor. Her brown eyes darted to the corpses laying on the ground, and she was suddenly filled with an unparalleled vengefulness.
"I do not know what you are, but you shall fall for your crimes," She almost hissed her words, her jaw clenched tightly as she swung her sword.
She received no response from the creature, it remained purely stationary facing her. Diana rushed forwards, her sword clutched tightly in her hand. She swiped at the cloak, expecting some kind of resistance. The metal went straight through the cloak, slashing it in half, only for it to fall, empty, to the steel floor.
All she could do was stare in confusion at the torn fabric laying in the growing pool of the researchers blood. She remained, standing there, still in confusion, as her phone started to ring. A few years ago, she had found pockets to be an incredibly useful addition to her suit, and had immediately had them put in. Diana pulled out the phone and swiped to answer it.
"Diana?" The voice asked."Bruce, I am busy right now." She replied, taking a step towards the researchers.
"Diana? What the hell is going on- we need to talk," Diana grunted softly as she moved closer towards them.
"I told you, I am busy right now!" She told him again, putting the phone down momentarily to tell the somewhat hysterical researchers to leave. "The situation is resolved now, you are far too impatient."
"What happened? Was that screaming?"
"I was doing my job," She signed, "What do you want, Bruce?"
"Well, last night I went to a party-"
Diana cut off the beginning of what she assumed would be nervous rambling, "You'll need to hurry up, I do not have long."
"I got drunk, blackout drunk. I started talking- Diana, listen to me. I started talking about you-"
She started to chuckle at the thought of him getting so drunk that all he could talk about was her. There were very few people left in the world whom she could call friends - Bruce was one such person, "Should I be happy or offended?"
"This is serious, I got so drunk I started telling Tony Stark, a room full of money-hungry billionaires and the Avengers that you're like Captain America- I told them that you fought in the First World War, I told them too damn much and half of it wasn't true."
Diana recoiled slightly, frowning. She stopped her chuckling as her mood grew darker, "I'm coming to Gotham."
