Chapter 18
(Inextricable Jungle)
They spoke till' one and soon everyone began to doze off. Laurin had given the spare room
to Nathan and Candice, promising that nothing forbidden happens in her house. They had snickered at
that and a whole new discussion came upon them. It was a fun night; something to cherish in times like
these. Elliot and Anthony were told to sleep in the living room and soon after even Laurin went to go to
sleep. With a sweet good night she left Elliot and Anthony to fight over the couch.
"You can sleep in the small one. I'm taller." Elliot argued.
"We're the same height. Stop acting like a little child." Anthony retorted. He was glad Laurin
could not see their childish exchange. He wanted her to be impressed not laugh at him as if he had
done something cute.
"Fine let's settle this in a mature fashion."
"Coin flips?" Anthony grinned. Elliot nodded and Anthony just shook his head. "Just take the
couch; I'll sleep on the floor." Tossing the pillow to his side he laid down next to the coffee table and
sighed as he stared up at the ceiling.
"Can't sleep?" Elliot asked as the seconds past by.
"I can't stop thinking"
"About?" he asked. Anthony shrugged turning on the rug to face Elliot.
"All sorts of things, Candice, Nathan, Nathan and Candice, together." He bit his lips and
remained from speaking the other name that was on his lips.
"How about Laurin, You like her?" Elliot asked staring at the bare ceiling.
"Yes. It's weird I just met her and- bam! I like her a lot. Is that weird?" he asked like a child
looking for guidance. Elliot chuckled.
"It seems to me this is a case of love at first sight."
"That's bull. You know that." Anthony waved it off. A part of him considered what Elliot was
saying and the other part wanted to shut down and not think about it. How can he be in love with Laurin?
She didn't do love. She worked at a brothel; she probably has men at her feet. With her charm and
beauty any one of them could have fallen in love and if she truly wanted to love someone she would have
done so a long time ago. Why would he serve as a different case? Anthony let the feeling of disparity
wash over him and he locked the thought up as he drifted off to sleep.
"It can't be love." He whispered before his eyes closed and he began to dream, dream about
her.
Nathan took off his shoes as he undid the buttons on his collared shirt. The shower was still
