PRESENT
"Jesus. What the fuck happened here?"
"Language, Anna," mom rolled her eyes, stopping momentarily. My guess being she realized that I was actually there, "I- what are you doing here."
"I'm here to help."
"I- I didn't even know you knew about what happened."
"Oh, no. Not with this mess," I chuckled nervously, "With the case."
"How could you help?" mom immediately grew interested as she made her way to me.
"Should I... should I go?" Alex called out from his spot behind the counter.
"No, it's fine," I sighed, "Listen, mom. I'm not sure how this whole law things works but I have proof that could help you win both your case against the school and Bryce."
"Anything you have would be great!" she smiled, "I'll call the lawyer and-"
"There are people involved in this proof that might not necessarily even know they are," I cut her off, "So you... you have to make sure this information doesn't leak to anyone other than the jury and judge of this case."
"We'll figure it out, I promise," she reassured me, "Now, what is it?"
Clearing my throat, I handed her all the copies I managed to finish in record time and still could get the originals back to Clay before he missed them too much.
"The originals are with someone else. But I was just scared that they would be destroyed by Bryce or his friends so I made copies. I hope they'll still stand-"
"They're perfect," mom sighed, pulling me into a hug, "Thank you."
It felt weird. Getting affection from your mother who you've barely even spoken to in the last few months.
But I also felt relief. Not only from her but from me too. Relief that this would all finally be over thanks to Zach's help.
When we pulled away, she wiped tears that fell, "I know you said you didn't want to help here but-"
"Go. Alex and I got it handled."
"Thank you," she repeated before quite literally running off.
"So... your proof?" Alex asked after a while.
"A bunch of disgusting pictures Brycetard and his friends took."
"Makes sense," he sighed, "So, should we get this done fast so we can get out of here?"
"Definitely."
By the next morning, I was exhausted but still made sure to be at the trial the next morning with Alex, Tony, Justin and Clay.
"So you really gave them to your mom?"
"I had to," I frowned, "That evidence could really help their case- I made sure to tell them to make sure it stayed privileged though."
