JULY 16 1939
Today is my birthday, but my brothers ruined it by only giving me ribbon! And it was my least favourite type of ribbon, the gross color of green that I hate! Papa gave this diary to me and I do not want to write in it!! Papa says he thinks it would be good for me to write in it, but I do not think so!!! He says I have to write in it at least half an hour a day. I HATE WRITING IN THIS THING!!!!! I am never ever going to write in here!! I will hide it under my bed in the box where Mama keeps my old clothes. I hope no one finds it!!!

Arielle is the worst sister ever!!!!
This morning we were in the backyard together and we were both reading when she suddenly said that she knew that I had hidden my diary and that I was selfish to write that Aapo and Aaron had ruined my birthday by giving me a ribbon. 'You could have gotten nothing', she pointed out. At that point she said that she had shown it to Papa and Mama and I was in big trouble and had to go to their room and talk about my "selfish behaviour "with them. Basically, what happened after that is I jumped up called Arielle some names I don't want to repeat, and slapped her in the face. Then I headed to Mama and Papa's room. After that a crying Arielle ran past me and told my papa and mama exactly what I said and did. Sheesh, as if I wasn't in enough trouble already. Papa told Arielle to leave, and then he and Mama started yelling at me for being selfish. After that, they sent me up to my room after being told to make dinner tonight
