The flesh and the spirit are opposites, when we sin we are committing actions high in the flesh, so there is fasting for that to bring the spirit higher and the flesh to die out. With this being said it isnt hard to realize that God doesnt like sin. Since God doesnt like sin, God must have a plan for sin, ( matthew 1:21- and she shall bring forth a son, and though shalt call his name jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins). (John 1:29-the next day john seeth jesus coming unto him, and saith, behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world). So it is pretty obvious that God brought brought jesus to erase the sin oit of the world. For sin is of the world thats why we call sinful thinking carnal or secular mindsets.
