It seems that all of your lives are out. Very sorry about that - It was always going to end this way, of course. If it weren't by C. Q. Cumber, it would've just been by some other... y'know, terrible octarian thing just... You could not imagine how terrible it would be. Just... I get scared thinking about it! Glad it's not me.
Reminds me of a... of a time I was speaking to my good friend Marina. We were... we were sitting on a park bench watching the sea snails. I was on the left, she was on the... oh wait. Was I on the right?.. or left? Anyways, it doesn't matter. We were sitting on there, watching the snails, and I.. uh.. I said to Marina: "Friend, those snails are frozen!"
She... kinda looked at me like I lost my mind. But I reminded her that it was winter, y'know? And often snails will sit in their shells until they'd freeze... Then they'd, they'd, you know, sort of hide in their shell until the sun warms up, an- and they can, y'know, move around again.
So I said to Marina "You'd might as well save those waffle crumbs until the snails thaw, because they can't very well enjoy them in the condition they're in."
To which she asked what I meant, and asking what condition the crumbs should be in before she threw them to the snails, assuming I had meant the snails couldn't enjoy the waffle crumbs in the condition that the crumbs were in, when in fact I had meant the snails couldn't enjoy them in the condition the snails were in, considering the snails were frozen, y'know?
So she took a moment and then she threw her last handful on the ground. "Marina, why did you throw the waffle crumbs to the snails when I just told you they're frozen."
To which she responded "The waffle crumbs are not frozen," again misunderstanding my words. I didn't mean to say the waffle crumbs were frozen when I told you they're frozen. I've been referring to the snails.
You know, in hindsight, what I - what I should have said was - and this would make perfect sense: "Why did you throw the waffle crumbs to the snails when the snails are frozen."
She misunderstood upon my correction, stating that she didn't know what else to do with the waffle crumbs, and that perhaps, y'know, when the snails thawed they would still be able to eat the crumbs.
So I...I..I said to Marina - I said - This is what I said to her - I said:
"Marina, the snails might be dead."
