White walls surrounded me as my Father weeped. I didn't understand at the time why and I didn't understand that my Mom would never reawaken. I thought she was just sleeping.
My brother held me close to his chest and cried into my shoulder. I wrapped my tiny arms around him and clasped my tiny hands together. I asked him why he was crying.
I asked everybody. No one would answer. They would only look at me with pity in their eyes. I cried when my Dad forced me to leave the hospital. I didn't want to leave my Mom.
It was a year later before I understood that it wasn't me that left my Mom, it was her that left me. She was the light in my life, but now, that light has gone out.
