It had been several days since Steve saved you from the Hydra facility. He pretty much never left your side. You found out you had a lot in common with Steve, and you were glad he stayed with you.

You still couldn't work, but today Steve was going to walk with you around the base. Since you weren't able to work, you put on a cute orange top with high waisted navy blue pants. You left your hair down in lose curls, and then you put on your red lipstick. Then you slipped on black flats. You weren't really thinking you were dressing to impress, but at the same time you sort of were. You really liked Steve, and you did want to impress him.

When you heard a knock on the door, you got excited. You opened it to see Steve in his SSR shirt. He was smiling and extended his hand to you. You gladly took his hand in yours, and you both walked out your room.

Steve thought you looked beautiful as always. He couldn't help but blush everytime you'd hold his hand. He would smirk anytime another soldier would look at you with him and get jealous.

You both were walking around when a few men began to cat call you. You were beginning to get uncomfortable especially since they had never done that before, at least the men recovering in the medical tent.

Steve acknowledged this and wrapped his arm around your waist pulling you closer to him. It shocked you, but you liked the feeling of being wrapped in his arm.

"How about we go back to your room, and we can talk there?"

You nodded, and he walked with you back to your room. You sat criss crossed on your bed with him as you began to talk with him.

"I just don't understand. They've never talked like that to me before. I don't like it." You looked down to your hands.

"I think it might be my fault." Steve frowned.

"What why?" You looked up to him.

"Any man, anyone, would love to spend time with you. I just happen to be that guy. I hope that doesn't sound odd, but a lot of these men think you're beautiful... I.... I think you're beautiful." Steve whispered. He hoped you didn't take it the wrong way, but he was hopeful when you grabbed his hand.

"I think you're one of the sweetest and bravest gentlemen Stevie. I happen to like you a lot." You leaned to him kissing his cheek. You giggled when you saw his look of surprise plus the addition of your red lipstick on his cheek.

"I know there's not much we can do here, but when the war ends can I take you on an actual date. Maybe we could go dancing?" Steve spoke again smiling.

"I'd like that. Perhaps the war will be over soon." You were hopeful that the war would be over soon. You took his other hand squeezing it as well. Then you began to move your hands with his.

"What are you doing?" He chucked.

"I'm thumb wrestling with you."

"Thumb wrestling?"

"Yeah. You haven't heard about it? Well it is rather new."

"I've heard of it." He smiled shaking his head.

Then he won. You both kept playing thumb wrestling as you talked. Eventually he left you to go back to his own cot. You put on your pjs and dreamed of the day the war would finally be over.

The next day you got dressed from your pyjamas and walked to the canteen where Steve said he'd be waiting for you.  He had just gotten both your plates and was sitting down at a table close to the doors.

"Hey Stevie." You smiled sitting down beside him.

You both began to eat when a younger soldier and his friends ran through.

"The war is over. The war is over." He shouted. One of the other men handed you a newspaper and you and Steve looked at it. It really did say the war was over, two days ago. You wondered why your uncle hadn't told you, but you didn't care at the moment.

You put the paper down and faced Steve. Before he could question what you were doing, you pulled him by his t-shirt and kissed him. You knew this was the right time to finally kiss him. Then he wrapped his arms around your waist pulling you closer as he smiled kissing you in return. Finally you pulled apart, but you lied your head on his chest and held his hand.

It had been weeks since you learned the war was over. You'd all moved back to New York, and you were surprised to learn you lived relatively close to each other.  Today you were going out with Steve again.

He always looked so dashing, and when he was in his everyday attire you couldn't help but swoon.

He met you at the door as always, but this time he would take your hand and kiss the top. You'd smile because his beard always tickled your skin.

"You look beautiful as always Sunshine." He had given you the name Sunshine as his pet name for you. You loved it and would blush everytime he called you that.

Through the years, you and Steve went on plenty of amazing dates. This year would be five years of being together.

Tonight you both were going dancing in the same place you both had your very first date at. Your arms were wrapped securely around his neck, while his were wrapped around your waist. You both danced the night away until he pulled away from you smiling brightly.

"Y/n... You make me so happy, and I would love to get to spend the rest of my life with you." He kneeled down and pulled out a velvet box with a diamond ring inside.

"Yes." You squealed.

He stood up and slid the ring on your finger, and then he kissed you sweetly and softly. When you pulled apart you noticed the other couples cheering for Steve and you.

You couldn't believe you were going to be marrying your hero and your best friend.
