Yn's POV

"All right, there are two unrelated wire investigations. Surveillance followed three of area central's top-ranking gang targets to this house on Carpenter. Narcotics hasn't gotten anywhere with it, so command staff wants Intelligence on it. Roll out in five" Voight said.

Since we had a new member of the team, and Antonio didn't want anyone to use Julie's desk for now since she died, I placed a desk against mine and Al's making it face the wall. I moved my stuff there and let Adam have my old desk. Now, I was closer to Jay, who was my best friend on the unit. We all suited up and headed out to our location. Al, Adam, and I were disguised as public service workers.

"We got the main eye" Al said into the walkie talkie. "We're set up to the north. 10-4" Antonio said. "We got the south and a partial of the alley" Jay said. "If anyone goes mobile from the house, we're in position for a take-away. Olinsky, Ln, and Ruzek, move closer. See if there's any movement in the house" Voight spoke.

Suddenly, there was a man walking up to the house. I motioned for Al and Adam to duck behind a car with me. We were watching the man and he pulled out a gun. I drew my weapon, and then there were gunshots. Dozens of them. And when I looked up, the man who was standing in front of the door had multiple gunshot wounds and fell to the floor. He was definitely dead.

Adam ran towards the house right away. "Adam" I whisper yell. "What are you doing?" But he didn't listen to me and entered the house. I entered in behind him and saw him shoot the offender in the shoulder before kicking the gun away. The rest of the unit entered in behind me.

"Hey" I say and pull Adam aside. "You have to stop being so reckless. I promised Voight that I would watch over you and make sure you don't do anything stupid. And that was stupid. If you keep doing that, then I'm going to loose my job, and you're going to loose a spot in Intelligence." "Okay" Adam said. "I'll dial my recklessness back a bit."

"Charlie 50-21, emergency" Antonio said into the radio. "One shot fired by the police. Offender down. Plainclothes officers on scene." "In here" Erin said from the kitchen. Voight and Antonio went to check it out while the rest of us stayed with the offender.

Later, back at the district, I was walking with Adam upstairs. "Did you see a counselor yet" I ask. "Counselor? I don't need to see a counselor" Adam said. "Well, I don't need to wear pants, but, you know, here I am. It's compulsory when you shoot down your first offender."

"This is Edward Jelko, the deceased street-level dealer" Voight said and put a picture on the board. "This is Peter Thomas Banfill, the offender, currently baking in a coma over at County. Jelko probably thought like we did that Banfill was sitting on something big, went over there to rip him off." "These are M995s, teflon-tipped, kevlar-penetrating rounds. Ballistics has 'em linked to several recent homicides" Antonio said.

"And we found 100 of these at the scene" Erin said and held up an insulin box.  "It's for type R insulin, which is a Canadian designation." "And with any luck, our little surprise visit got the gun runners scrambling, which means they're gonna make mistakes, okay? Eyes open" Voight said.

........................................................................

"Hey, any word on the guy I dropped" Adam asked. "He's still in the ICU. What'd your counselor say" I ask. "That I'm coping well with the trauma, but I think she was talking about working with you."

"You're in the van" Al said and walked towards us. "Wait, why can't we do the buy with you" Adam asked. "Let me guess" I say. "Antonio called shotgun." Al nodded. "Christmas is the takedown word" Voight said.

The rest of us suited up and got into the van. We followed Al and Antonio and listened in to their conversation with the gun dealer. Then, Al got into a car and drove off with the men leaving Antonio behind. We followed and ended up outside of a warehouse. Right as Al said the word Christmas, we busted in with our guns raised.

Shots were fired at us almost immediately. Jay and I took cover behind some crates and the bullets sailed over us. When the gunfire stopped, I crouched and began shooting at the offenders. They shot at us and we shot at them. The only thing heard was the sound of gunfire. 2 of the men ran off, and the 3rd we caught. Then we headed back to the district.

"Nice job today" I say and fist bump Adam. "I was impressed." "Thanks" Adam said. "And about that advice you told me a while back, I'm going to tell Wendy everything. She deserves to know what I do every day." "That's nice to know. I'll see you tomorrow Adam."
