Detective Ln; An Adam Ruzek Love Story

Yn's POV

"I love Chicago winters" I say as Adam and I climbed out of the car. "You are the only person I have ever heard say that. Chicago winters are brutal" Adam said. "There's just something about them that makes me feel good" I say. "Maybe that's because you have hot flashes and pregnancy brain. Both of which can contribute to your delusional statements" Adam said to me as we walked into the district. Once inside, we bumped into Jay. "Jay, how do you feel about Chicago winters" Adam asked. "I hate them" Jay said and walked upstairs. "I told you Yn. You're officially going crazy" Adam said.

"The only crazy one is you because you still think we're having a girl" I say as we walked up the stairs to Intelligence where we would start discussing our newest case. "Yn, I can feel it in my gut. We're having a girl" Adam said. "Believe that all you want, but you, Mr. Ruzek, are wrong" I say. "You, Mrs. Ruzek, sound incredibly hot when you say that" Adam said. I smiled and pressed a quick kiss to his lips, taking a seat at my desk right after.

"What do we got" Voight asked. "I followed up on the Sammy's story about going to an AA meeting with Roberto, so this is security footage from the community center, and this is from an auto shop down the block" Hailey said and showed us a video. "Blue pickup" Voight noted. "I'm going to run that plate" I say. "Zero, one, X-ray, nine, four, King, two" Voight said. "The driver has a gun on him" Adam said when we zoomed in the video. "That means Sammy was telling the truth" Hailey said. 

"The time stamp says 7:12. That's a few hours before Roberto was killed" Adam said. "All right, here we go. Blue 2011 Ford. It belongs to a Joe Mason. He's a convicted felon, recently paroled out of Stateville on an attempted murder beef. LKA's a house in Elsdon" I say. "Okay, Jay, you and Hailey get over there. Stand by for the warrant" Voight said.

Joe Mason claimed he didn't kill Roberto, and he had an alibi that we were currently checking. He did tell us that he dropped Roberto off at his house before he left, and when Kevin and Vanessa went to check it out, they found a huge puddle of dried blood on the floor, along with a journal with the name Sammy Logan in it. When Vanessa and Hailey searched the church Sammy was staying at, they only found a pair of shoes with bloody soles.

"The sneakers that we found at the church, they're Sammy's. And the sole pattern and size are an exact match to the prints that we found at the demo house" Adam said. "All right, where are we at in Joe Mason's alibi" Voight asked. "We've got three witnesses that put him at a party at the same time as the murder. "Sammy Logan is starting to look good for this" Voight said. "Yeah, but the problem is, we can't find him anywhere. We've been circulating photos of him all over the neighborhood. No one's seen him" Hailey said. 

"We've also been checking city shelter logs. He's been in and out of a few for the last two years. Never stays" Vanessa said. "Well, does Sammy have some kind of file or a case worker" Voight asked. "Yeah, over in Lincoln Park" Vanessa replied. "All right. Get a subpoena for his medical records, talk to the case worker, and see what you can find" Voight said. Vanessa and Kevin went out to talk to Sammy's case worker, and they ended up finding him nearby, so they brought him into the station where I was going to talk to him.

I walked into the interview room and set a sandwich down in front of Sammy. "Go ahead and eat Sammy. I can tell that you're hungry" I say. "I'm not stupid" Sammy said. "No one thinks you're stupid" I say. "Did you put ricin in the mustard" Sammy asked. I knew that because Sammy had schizophrenia, he thought that everyone was out to get him, so I took a bite of the sandwich. I hate mustard, but I swallowed it to try and get him to trust me. "It's just mustard" I say. "I get it. You already took the antidote" Sammy said. "Sammy, if you haven't noticed, I'm almost 7 months pregnant. There's no way I'd put anything like that in my body" I say.
