"Son, a promise is a promise."
🍂🍂🍂🍂07:00 am. Lily's alarm clock rang. She opened her eyes and felt sick. Her head hurts as fuck and feels like it's been hit by a hammer plus the harsh winter in Seoul is starting to make Lily sick. She's about to lose her voice from having sore throat and cold.
She took her phone to inform Henry that she might not be able to come to work and will take a sick leave. When she opened it, she got a message from him:
6:49 AM Henry: Hey! Good morning. Got good news. See you at the office.
She responded:
7:10 AM Lily: Do I really have to go to work just for that news?
7:12 AM Henry: What do you mean?
7:15 AM Lily: I actually want to ask a leave today. I don't feel good and I really want to rest all day. If that's ok?
7:16 AM Henry: Oh sure! Want me to bring you anything? Got meds there?
7:18 am Lily: No I'm good thanks!
7:19 AM Henry: Sure.
She went back to bed and put the thick blanket on her. A few seconds later, her phone rang. She tried to see who it is and answered the phone:
Lily: Yeoboseyo? (Hello?)
Hoseok: Joheun achim (Good morning)
Lily: Mmmm. Good morning.
Hoseok: I have no schedule today except that my mom wants to see me this morning. Let's meet after your work?
Lily: (coughed) oh... oh...
Hoseok: Are you sick?
Lily: I took a day off today so I can rest. I don't feel good right now. But sure let's meet this afternoon.
Hoseok: No. I'll just go there. I'll just meet my mom and go straight there after.
Lily: Okay.
Hoseok: Saranghae aegi.
Lily: Nado saranghae.🍂🍂🍂🍂
9:30am. Hoseok went to his mom's office. The Jungs owns a chain of brewery that supplies the supermarkets and convenience stores all over Jeolla Province, and they have just expanded in Seoul. Mrs. Jung is known to the members as a strict but loving mom. Hoseok and his noona are very close to their parents.
"Eomma, na wasseo! (Mom, I'm here)", he greeted as he walked in her mom's office.
Mrs Jung looked up and adjusted her eye glasses, "Adeul! Gwaenchanh-a? (Son! How are you?)"
He hugged his mom and kissed her on the cheek. "Gwaenchanh-ayo eomma (I'm good mom). Why did you want to see me?"
She took her eyes glasses off and adjusted her seat into a more comfortable position. He went in front of his mom's desk and took a sit. Hoseok looked around the office and saw a few pictures of their family, including Mickey, and one of all the members during their concert.
"You remember Mr and Mrs Lee from Gwangju?"
"Nugu? (Who?) There's a lot of Lees in Gwangju." He said trying to sound silly.
"The Mayor of Gwangju. One of our neighbors in our hometown."
"Oh ye. Wae?"
"Well, I think your sister already told you why. They want to see us."
Hoseok felt frustration. "Eomma! I already told you, I have a girlfriend and I'm going to marry her."
"You see son", she paused and got up from her seat, "I know Lily is such a nice woman. We've already met her. But you know from the very beginning that this day will come."
"Please don't do this to me, mom." He took his mom's hands, "jebal", he begged with tears forming at the corner of his eyes.
"Son, a promise is a promise."

*cough* *cough* *cough*
2:52 PM. Lily took her phone to see what time is it. It's almost three in the afternoon. She slept way too long after taking a couple if pills to feel better. She hasn't had anything and her stomach is already protesting. She got up from her bed and went to the fridge to see if there's something she can eat. When she opened it, only a few bottles of water and soju are in it, and some kimchi.
"Why isn't he still here?", she asked herself. She checked her messages and Hoseok told her that he'll come later. Henry also sent her some messages but she didn't reply. Lily decided to go out to buy something to eat.
She walked and stopped at a Subway store at the corner of the street where she lives. She loves their sandwiches and it's her go-to food store whenever she needs something easy to eat. Lily sat beside the glass wall of the restaurant and enjoyed her food.
Looking at and 'criticizing' the passers-by was one of the things she and Eun Min did while enjoying their food during lunch breaks at the university before. It put a smile on her face remembering it as she's doing it alone right now. Suddenly, a red luxury sedan stopped and a familiar face got out of it and went in the restaurant.
"Oh you're here", Henry exclaimed.
"What are you doing here?", she blurted out in surprise. "Oh as if you're not allowed to, but... anyway," she sounds like arguing with herself. "What brought you here?"
"I was about to buy you something to eat here because I've been texting you and you didn't reply so I thought you're very sick and I was just worried. But I guess you're fine now." He said and pointed at the chair across her, "'May I?"
"Sure." She said. "I'm feeling fine now. Just got out to eat but I appreciate your concern."
"Good."
They talked some more and he updated her of the activities they're about to do at work. It gets colder so they decided to grab a coffee from the shop next to her apartment and go back to her pad. They discussed work stuff for hours and she didn't notice the time.
"Wow it's already 7 in the evening?" she said while looking at her watch.
"Oh yea!" Henry confirms while looking at his. "Should we get something for dinner or should I cook? You know not to boast or what, but people say I cook extremely good."
"Uhm, thanks for the offer but my fiancé will be coming over."
"Really?" He doubts.
She tried to look at him as if telling "no doubts please, he will come".
"I just don't want to leave you here hungry. Maybe you can call him to make sure before I leave?"
"Ok, ok." She took her phone and dialed.
"Hey," she said and spoke in Korean. "What time are you coming over?"
She asked with a smile on her face and paused while listening. Her forehead wrinkled and her smile slowly faded.
"Okay." She said. "Henry is actually here. Maybe we'll just have dinner together", her voice raised a little.
She again paused and her brows furrowed, "bye!"
She looked at Henry feeling embarrassed.
"So... where shall we eat? My treat!" Henry said without having to hear what Lily's fiancé told her.
