Chapter 13: PEARLS

I chuckled, minus the humor.

He sounded like he was confessing. He couldn't be confessing his feeling to me because it sounds crazy.

"It's not funny." I said and I was expecting Hal to laugh and say that he was just kidding. Like, why so serious?

"I'm not trying to be funny." He said instead with all seriousness and I didn't know what to say.

Why does he sound so fucking straight forward!? I hated it.

How can I get out of this situation. I never had someone confess to me before. Not until now.

"By the way, did you saw the pearls?"

I was surprised how he knew about the pearls. "Wait, you—those things were from you!?" I exclaimed. "Why would you give me those things? Are they even real?"

I flipped my bag on my front and searched for the pearls so I could hand it back to him. I didn't need those things.

"I'm pretty sure those are genuine and it was ten grand the last time I checked." He said and my hands froze from collecting the pearls inside my bag.

"Are you fucking serious?"

"Yes." He said and I pulled some of the pearls and scanned it thoroughly.

I couldn't even determine if it was fake or not. I wasn't even sure if this guy was really telling the truth.

"Where the hell did you get these things?"

"Just in the house."

"Just in your house? Do they grow magically somewhere in your house? Does your family swims for pearls or cultivates pearls or something?"

Hal looked at me for a second before he smiled. "Yeah."

I stared at him and handed every pearls back because I maybe poor and even if those pearls were real, I couldn't accept it. It was too much.

"I don't really need them and I know it was late but you should have placed it inside a plastic bag or something."

"I will."

I stared at him. "But not to me. Not in my locker. Okay?"

"But you won't mind if I still drop a note, right?"

"Whatever." I said and walked ahead of him.

"Can we hangout another time?"

I was surprised because I thought he just stayed there and watched me walking away from him.

"I don't know." I said as we walked side by side, entering the hallway where a lot of students were rushing.

"How come you don't know?"

I glared at him and he kept on smiling at me. Damn, that smile!

"I can't hangout with you." I said and it pissed me off because he was still wearing the same killer smile.

"Why? Was it because I like you?"
