Daybreak didn't seem to come fast enough. Jessica barely managed sleep – afraid that someone might break into her home. Thankfully, no such thing happened. But she lost the sleep that could have been helpful for the day ahead. Regardless, she grabbed the duffel bag she had packed the night before and slung it over her shoulder.

She wheeled her bike into the yard, looking around. Cars were parked and abandoned, some still running. People must have been tired of waiting and just took off. But what disturbed her was the town had fallen silent.

Nervous, she wheeled her bike in the opposite direction of the town and headed for the railroad tracks. She'd cross and ride down the highway, heading south.

She wasn't sure where she'd get to but leaving the town was the best option. If these people couldn't get out via evacuation, then there wasn't any point taking a chance on attempting to find it. She only hoped her family had made it out in time.

Trying to put the thought behind her, she moved toward the tracks to leave her town behind for good.
