"You want me to what?" Hoseok questioned.
"I want you to write a love song."
Namjoon's words took him by surprise, as they seemed to come from nowhere.
"Why?"
"I think it'd be a nice addition for the next album."
"Hoseok? Write a love song?" Jungkook cut in with raised brows.
"What makes you think I can't do it?" Hoseok asked the youngest, slightly offended by his remark.
"You can't even confess to Y/n. How could you write a love song?"
This struck something in Hoseok, a spark of determination igniting inside, eager to prove his group member wrong. Besides, having romantic thoughts was completely different than voicing them aloud to the person you like. Writing them down and turning them into a song? That would be easy.
"I'll do it."
"Just write a practice one first, okay? A draft." Namjoon looked at his fellow '94 liner friend who nodded in understanding.
"We should make a bet. Make things interesting." Jungkook spoke up. "If you write a love song, I'll buy dinner from your favorite restaurant."
This offer the maknae proposed made the deal much sweeter and only further fueled Hoseok's determination.
"You're on."Spinning on his heel, he strode out of the room and went straight to his personal studio to get to work, set on writing the best love song he possibly could. Whipping out his notepad, Hoseok started brainstorming. He thought about how love made a person feel and tried to focus on those emotions. He started scribbling down a couple lines only to stop, finding himself stuck in mere minutes.
His brows tugged together and he read over what he had written, trying to get his mind back on the right track. Another line came to mind which he jotted down on the paper, but he didn't like it all that much and marked it out. When he realized he was getting absolutely nowhere, he let out a heavy sigh and dropped his head onto the desk. Maybe Jungkook was right. He was fifteen minutes in and already stuck, drawing a blank and unable to think of any lyrics.
His pity party only lasted a few moments before an idea struck him and he sat upright. Reaching for his phone, he flipped the device over and gazed at the lock screen as it lit up. A fond smile painted his lips when he saw the picture of you, his best friend, and himself grinning on the screen; a selfie he had taken late one evening when you surprised him with takeout. Your hair was in its natural state and you had not a stitch of makeup on, but you smiled for the photo anyway when he opened his camera. You scolded him afterward for taking a picture when you weren't presentable, but he loved it. That was a couple months ago and it had been his lock screen ever since.
His heart never failed to flutter when he looked at that image and saw the smile on your face. It was so candid and natural despite both of you flashing grins for the camera.Just that moment of gazing upon a recent snapshot filled Hoseok with inspiration, his mind bursting at the seams with ideas. He picked up his pen and started scribbling lyrics hastily on his notebook paper, honing in on his feelings towards someone special and putting those emotions into words. He was brainstorming like crazy, not paying attention to just how much he was writing, just trying to get everything on paper before he forgot or lost inspiration.
