A grunt left your dry lips as you forced yourself up the fire escape attached to the outer wall of your apartment building. The pain in your side was unbearable, but you pushed through long enough to make it to your bedroom window, nearly collapsing as you clambered over the windowsill. Wincing, you reached around and unzipped your suit, stripping it off and staggering to the bathroom. The first thing that greeted you in the mirror was a huge discolored bruise on your ribs, splotching your skin in dark hues that would no doubt get worse. Lifting your gaze, you noticed a cut on your cheekbone, your fingertips coming up to brush against it. Sighing softly, you grabbed some ointment, placed a small bandage over the injury, and walked back into your room where you changed into some loose and comfortable clothes.
Taking a seat on your bed, you flipped on the TV, a news anchor flashing on the screen as it came to life."The mysterious hero, Voltage, has saved the city from yet another villain attack. Witnesses say—"
You sighed, turning off the television, not wanting to hear about what happened and relive it all over again. You glanced at the clock, a frown tugging at the corners of your mouth at the time displayed on it. 10:00 PM. A groan left you as you threw your head back against the couch. You had college the next day, which you could skip, but you knew you shouldn't. You couldn't get behind on school work, especially with the whole superhero thing you had going. You headed across campus the following day, lugging your large textbooks with you. The cut along your cheek had closed up considerably overnight thanks to the ointment and bandaid. You removed the covering before getting ready for the day and hoped no one would notice the injury, praying the layers of makeup you'd packed on covered it up. As for the ugly bruise on your ribs, it was more sensitive today than the day prior and you could only hope no one bumped into you.
You stepped into class with a huff, dropping into your seat, retrieving your phone to pass time doing your morning social media scroll.
Of course there were videos and pictures from yesterday's public scuffle, clips of you leaping through the air, sending bolts of lightning to the villain you were battling. Opening the comments, you were met with a slew of praises that brought a smile to your face.Voltage is my hero!
Do y'all ever wonder who Voltage really is? What does she do when she's not fighting bad guys?
I can't believe she kicks butt all the time AND has a regular life.
You grinned giddily at your phone like an idiot as you read the responses. Things like that always made the stress worth it. Sweet messages like the ones you had read seemed to make the injuries less painful.
"Morning, Y/n." A gravelly voice spoke softly from behind you.
Turning around, you saw Yoongi, one of your classmates, approaching and getting situated in the desk beside you.
"Morning." You greeted, your heart racing.
His long black hair framed his face beautifully, his skin practically glowing and looking pristine as always. He looked too good. Then again, when did he not?
You two shared a couple classes together and were more like acquaintances that sometimes chatted after the period ended.
That brief exchange with Yoongi was all that was said before you turned back to your phone, closing the social media app and sliding the device into your pocket.
