Chapter Eleven

June 2020

The spring air blew through Odette's hair, she leaned back and let the night air wash over her in a sense of comfort. Odette had been thinking a lot of her family lately and how much she had missed them. Especially Edward. She couldn't help but feel like she had betrayed him, she thought that of all people he would understand mates. People always shocked Odette, just when she thought she could figure them out the did something unpredictable. As she sat in the gardens she came to a realization, she needed to stop trying to figure people out, eve people she was close to.

Odette's hands brought her knees to her chest and she rested her chin on them. "Hello ,sister." A deep voice came from beside her, she had been so caught up in thought she hadn't been paying attention.

"Hello, Caius." She scooted over on the bench and he took a seat. "Where is Aro?" Caius was sworn to secrecy. He couldn't tell her of the letter, he had promised Aro. He was threatened by Aro.

"Busy with some guests." Caius covered up. He knew that Odette did not believe him, but she always had known when it was better to not ask.

"Tell me, Caius. Do you ever feel unloved." Caius turned her head to the calm woman next to him, she was so elegantly staring at the moon, something she did often. Had Aro made her feel this way? Had he made her feel like she was not wanted here? Caius could not believe that, Aro spoke so highly of Odette. Her eyes closed, Caius observed her as she took a breath in. A breath that she did not need. "Sometimes it feels like the whole world is out to get me." Odette reached her hand out to the stars, but she could not reach. "This." Her other hand reached up. "This is all I am, and all I will be." Her vice had softened near the end.

"Love comes in many forms, Odette. Even ones we don't necessarily like." Caius looked at Odette.

"Like what?" Odette looked in to Caius' eyes. She imagined what they looked like when he was human. She hardly remembered her own. Ciaus did have an example, but it culd ruin everything. It was clear he had to tell her, Caius thought that maybe she would still love him through this.

"If I tell you this, you mustn't say a word. Not to Aro. Not to anyone."She slowly nodded. "A long time ago Marcus had a mate. Her name was Didyme, Aro's biological sister. I had never met two people who looked at each other like that before. Didyme's ability was too make others happy, and she did. Didyme was like sunshine on Earth. You remind me of her a little. After a while Marcus and Didyme became displeased with the Volturi, they wanted to run away together. Leave this place." Odette felt her heart twitch. She had once felt like that. She still loved Aro but he was hardly around and when he was he avoided her. He had become cruel and harsh towards her. "I had never heard of Aro being so angry before. He did not want to lose power so he did the one thing he knew how to keep Marcus to stay. He killed his own sister, Odette. On the thirst for power. Aro wanted Marcus to stay, he had never told Marcus what had happened. Out of love. He lied and murdered for the love of his brother and his organization."

"My Aro?" Her hand went to her chest, the world was closing in on her and she felt like everything she knew was a lie. She could not believe that. Aro had seemed so sweet, and there it was again. The sad feeling that people always shock you. In many ways, you can never trust anyone. Odette rested her head on Caius' sholder and grabbed his forearm. She needed contact, physical contact. Caius grabbed her chin and looked her in the eyes, a small drop of venom fell from her red eyes. Caius leaned in and pulled Odette's face close to his lips. She closed her eyes but he kept his open until they came in contact. The kiss was short, and soft. It held a certain sadness behind it. Odette was confused, she loved Aro but he had seemed to not love her anymore. She had feared in all his late nights he was with women of the night. However, she would never accuse him and she would ever ask. She damned herself for thinking of Aro while sharing an intimate moment with another man.

Caius gripped her thigh and yanked her on top of him, her hands roamed through his hair. He placed his lips on her neck but she then pushed him off. Her hand covered her mouth, "This is wrong." She whispered.

"Odette, wait." but she had already ran off to god knows where. "Fuck." He swore and kicked the bench over. "Fuck fuck fuck." He ran his hands through his hair. Caius did not know how he was to make this right, nothing seemed to help when it crossed his mind. What would Aro do if he found out. Caius was also very concerned as to where Odette had gone off to. Was she going to tell her husband? Of course she would, she always does what's right.

"Long night?" A voice asked. A woman sat on top of the fence, her legs crossed with a cigarette lit.

"Who are you?! How did you get her?!" Caius began to yell at the intruder.

"You'd be quiet if you didn't want Aro to know what I just saw." She hissed as she jumped from the high fence. Caius growled and stood straight.

"What do you want?" His voice was firm as she circled him, he reminded her of a classic villain from films he had seen. She was cool, casual, and rude. She was poised but also had a relaxed feel to her. Caius did not trust her one bit.

"You will find out in time, but for now, let's talk."
