don't let your heart fall for me,
because i can't guarantee that i'll
hold my palms out,
waiting to catch it.
there's no denying that there
are parts of you
and parts of me
that align,
but i don't want the things that lie beneath the surface of your skin.
maybe all i want is your body against mine in the shadows of a nightclub,
to let our lips collide under a sky saturated with stars,
to listen to the over-used drumbeat of your favourite song at three am
before your hands play the instrument of my body at the slowest tempo.
forgive me.
i've never played a duet before,
and i think i like the novelty of having someone to harmonise with
more than i like the sound of our song.
