There are numerous obstacles you can write into the book for your MC to overcome.

However, there are obstacles that will entertain and hook readers more than others.

Is your MC in high school?

Popular girl can try to get between MC and the crush.

MC can move to a new school and know no one/struggle making friends.

MC can have abusive family who doesn't like it when MC hangs around opposite sex.

Is MC an employee who loves the boss?

Rival can try to sabotage MC's work.

MC can get fired or reprimanded for doing a poor job.

Need some obstacles that can work with any scenario?

Maybe MC can cheat on the crush and seek forgiveness.

Maybe the crush can be accused of cheating.

Ex tries to come back into the picture.

These are just a few obstacles that will grab the attention of many readers.

Anything petty or stupid can usually work.

You don't need to put much thought into the obstacles or conflicts.

Just give the MC and crush some fuel for an argument. Get them mad at/suspicious of each other. Make them spend some time apart to work through the problem.

When they make up, everything will be easily fixed and completely fine. But it'll be worth it, no matter how stupid the problem is because readers will be invested in that.
