1. A Butterfly
A butterfly has a way to bring
Joy and life to everything.
I try to catch them in the field,
And yet everytime I yield.
Their beautiful wings, their magnificent flight;
No, I am not one to break them, but others might.

2. Broken
I cannot fly away; this angry child has me in their grasp.
I cannot fly away; they have me in their hands, clasped.
I could fly away; they must go back inside today.
I could fly away, but I can't, for they have broken me.

3. The Curse of Life
When the horrifying kids come out to play,
Inside is where we hide all day.
But when they find us, my friends and family and I,
We are taken away, to go to cages or die.
All my family have been separated; I'm sent to a cage,
Where they keep me because of strength and age.
I know where my family is; they were too old and too young,
So for the rest of my life, I wake with the undying sun.

4. Hope
I saw six million butterflies, all caught by a bird;
I wanted to help, but evil things stirred.
Everything was done and over, long before my day,
But even as i speak, i see some fly away.

Okay, so i didn't revise these or anything, and I know that they're a little... strangE, but this was during a mini-course I got for Anne Frank, sooo...

Also, in the poems, we were instructed to use butterflies as a metaphor to refer to the Jews who were affected by the Holocaust, and this is what my 7th grade mind came up with... I hope this might spark some inspiration or interest in this event in anyone who reads this, because it's actually a very interesting and emotional thing to do research on and just to know in general.
