Hello everyone and welcome to An Ornamental Yarn Contest! We asked all of you which classic author you would enjoy seeing as the inspiration for this contest and, although it was close, William Shakespeare was your top pick!

We hope that each of you will enjoy this contest! Make sure to prepare yourselves for what's to come!

PROMPT:

Tis the season, but while you're decking your halls, there's quite the classic tale unraveling. For who, you might ask? Why, the decorations of course!

In 500 to 1,000 words, regale us with a retelling of one of William Shakespeare's classics, but make all of the characters holiday ornaments and decor!

Your setting can be anything from a dressed up tree, to a festive tablescape, or even the holiday aisle of a craft store--anywhere you might find a cast of holiday decorations!

-Be creative!

-Make sure you include enough elements from Shakespeare's book, which you will choose, for us to tell your entry is a retelling.

-Write a minimum of 500 words, but no more than 1k.

CONTEST GUIDELINES:

Stories must be rated for Everyone. This means we will not accept Mature stories.

Stories must be written in English. We do apologize for any inconvenience!

SO, HOW DOES IT WORK?

The short story will consist of a max of one thousand words. You are allowed to separate it into chapters if you like, but the total amount can not exceed one thousand. It can either be in it's own book or in an existing book consisting of short stories, but make sure to title the chapter or story: An Ornamental Yarn (Classic Authors Contest 2018).

Last day for submissions: December 31, 2018. Any submission past this date will not be counted.

Make sure to provide a link to the story or chapter in the comments or in the external link below! It will be easier for us by providing a link to your story so we can get the results out quicker! Remember: If it's over one thousand words, we can not accept your submission.
