FIRST SNOW
The sky was an infinite grey, and the morning light had the consistency of watered-down milk. It had snowed overnight. We decided to go to the park, to enjoy the first snow of the season.It was quiet there. A breeze shook flakes from the trees and brought the scent of woodsmoke. We were the first to enter the pristine woods.The stream in the heronry was frozen, and there were no signs of life. We kept walking, leaving our footprints behind us. As we passed a copse there was a sudden noise. A heron took to the skies.
