Sam plowed down the final hundred meters of his leg feeling complete and utter bliss knowing full heartedly Allen was going to bring it home to victory. Allen took off running and extended his arm for the blind pass precisely three steps before Sam placed it seamlessly in his hand. And then he was off to the races. By the time Allen rounded the second curve there was not a single wolf in within 50 meters of him and Sam skipped along the field with him as he neared the finish line egging him on with a smile so wide it'd span mountains.

As soon as Allen crossed the finish line Sam barreled into him and sent them both straight into the turf. Sam couldn't help but laugh as his best friend sat planted on top of him, pounding his chest and screaming affirmations of victory. After a celebratory victory lap around the track in their wolf forms with the rest of the team, Sam and Allen put on shorts and headed back towards the pack house.

"Is there a glitch in the simulation or something? Because something strange has been going on with our face for about half a mile."

Allen's baby smirk erupts into a full grown smile as he chuckled, dipping his head and kicking a rock off the dirt road.

"I don't know man... call me crazy but this whole mating thing doesn't seem to bad anymore these days. If there's actually a person out there that just—gets it? Without me having teach them how to know me...without me feeling intruded on...they'd just get it. And I'd just get them? It's kind of crazy."

Sam looked at him for a moment and formed a small smirk of his own. It's not everyday Allen just smiles. And it darn sure isn't everyday he smiles about getting close to someone. Sam slings his arm over his shoulder and whacks his head with the other before taking off running away and laughing.

Just as they came running into the pack house they were spun around and planted directly in front of Allen's dad.

"Alpha Morris."

Sam panted the greeting and gave a quick salute as he relaxed onto the front door, propping himself up on one foot. The gesture earned him a smack upside the head from Allen.

"After nineteen years you both still act like pups." Alpha Morris cracked a sly smile and nodded his head towards the staircase, "Get yourselves cleaned up and composed by the time we start the mating ceremony. How 'bout that?"

"Sure thing, pops."

Sam gave his father a pat on the back as the two slipped past him and jogged up the stairs.

It was now only a couple of hours before the mating ceremony and Allen had been sitting on his beanbag strumming random tunes and staring out the window and into the distance. Sam laid sprawled out on Allen's bed like he owned the place, beat boxing complimentary tunes and scrolling through his phone. Aside from the music they were making it was a comfortable silence as they waited.

Allen was snapped out of his thoughts as Ava let herself in.

"Hey, Allen!"

"There's my favorite future Beta."

They wrapped each other up into a quick hug before Ava flopped down on the bed at Sam's side and pulled out her phone as well.

"Allen, I'm going to pretend I'm not offended by that. I know you can be a bit misguided. And Ava, you're my favorite future beta too you know?"

Sam extended his arms for a hug but instead he received a short, "Thanks kid," followed by a pat on the leg. The look on Sam's face was priceless. Allen laughed at the pair. If they weren't waiting for the mating ceremony, they'd be a couple by now. They easily fell back into the music, Ava pitching in a few hums of soft melodies as we waited.

It all happened so quickly. The time flew by and all of a sudden Allen's parents had given their introduction and they were standing on the stage exchanging the crescent dagger, preparing to smear a drop of blood onto the moonstone and have their mates revealed. Over the years the mating ceremony has become a bit of a formality for old times sake, but the process is still practiced in this pack without all the bells and whistles. It's just a done for the future alpha and future betas, the reveal is brief, the crowd claps and coos at the new pairs and then everyone returns to the party.

On the far left Ava was giving a one last silent prayer to the moon goddess that she and Sam would be together. A few feet to the right, Sam was cock-sure Ava was his mate and he wore a sly smirk to boot with his chin held high. Beside him, Allen's hands were clammy. He had a tingling at the pit of his stomach at the prospect of having to forge a bond with someone new, or rather have it forged for him. Yet he was faintly happy. In short, he was a mess. However, his strong demeanor displayed nothing of the sort and he appeared to be oozing power and pride. The packs's next luna was about to be revealed.

Alpha Morris prompted them to embrace the moonstone and perfectly in sync, the three wolves placed their slit palm onto the stone. The room was entirely silent and the next moments were a blur. All at once they felt it. Ava felt a new yet faint longing all over her body. Sam felt it. He smelled it. His entire body seemed as if it had awakened with desire, ambushed by the dangerously close presence of his mate. Allen was overwhelmed for all of the wrong reasons. He felt it loud and clear, every one of his senses waged a war on him to engage with his mate. His wolf was clawing at the surface, but he was stunned. It was Sam.

Well, I've always loved a good werewolf plot. Why not make it gay and poly (soon)?
