❝ yeah, I paid the price and own the scars ❞ niall horan

There was a knock on the door. Gerard's mother stormed to the door and opened it. "Oh, it's you again," she told the man waiting on the other side.

"Hi, is Gerard here?"

"Yeah, he's in his room," she walked off to the kitchen, "would you like anything?"

"I'm fine." Sergio walked up to Gerard's room.

Sergio knocked on the door, then went in. "Hey Gerard, I need to talk to you."

Gerard looked up from his phone. Bags and dark circles were under his eyes, he clearly hadn't been sleeping well. His hair was a mess and he had a few day old beard. It seemed like Gerard was having a mid-life crisis.

Sergio felt a pang of guilt. It seemed like it was all his fault. He should not have reacted to Gerard's call like that. He should have been supportive and talked about it. For once, he felt awfully vulnerable, he felt scared.

"I'm so fucking sorry, I should not have reacted that way. We should have talked about it, I just want our relationship back," Sergio poured out his heart.

"It's all my fault," he whispered.

"Sergio, I thought that this was for the best. It's hard for me too. But do you really want the relationship back?"

Several beads of tears streamed down Sergio's cheeks. He merely nodded. "Yeah, I do. I've missed you so fucking much."

Gerard sighed deeply and stared down at his fingers. He fidgeted. "Jesus. Look, if you really want to try and make this work out, I'm in. But I just want you to know that I'm willing to try and give up as much as I can for this - us to work. Promise me you'll stay with me forever."

Sergio walked up to Gerard and cupped his face into his hands. Their hearts beat faster and faster, and yet they were in sync. Their hands slithered around each other. Gerard could taste the wine Sergio drank before he came. Sergio loved the way Gerard smelt like, cherries. He never really noticed it. As cliche as this kiss sounded, there were sparks going everywhere. It was perfect. It seemed like it was taken out of a romance novel.

Every breath they took only showed how desperate for each other's love. They had waited for so long for this moment. It seemed like they did not see each other for centuries. Their hands went through each other's hair. It just seemed like a dream, a dream that they did not want to wake up from. Their legs were tangled, their thoughts were as chaotic as the sea.

Once they finally parted, breathless and without their shirts on, they stared into each other's eyes.

"I really needed that," Sergio said, all sweaty.

"I missed you," Gerard entwined his fingers with Sergio's. It was a dream come true, "let's just hope that Madre doesn't find out what just happened."

"It doesn't matter if she finds out."

"You're right."

Sergio rested his head on Gerard's shoulder, closing his eyes. Gerard too, closed his eyes. Both of them drifted off to sleep.

Sunlight shone through the window. Birds were chirping outside. Sergio's eyes fluttered open, he turned to his left and saw Gerard groaning, rubbing his eyes. Sergio wrapped his arms around Gerard smiling. "Good morning."

"Jesus, don't wake me up, leave me alone Sergio."

"Well, it didn't seem like it yesterday."

"Yesterday...." Gerard soon opened his eyes and turned to Sergio.

"Mhm."

"Anyway, I'll uh, make you breakfast."

"Do you want me to help?"

"It's fine."

"Please?"

"Fine, if you want to, Jesus."

Both of them got ready and went downstairs. But once they got downstairs, Gerard's mother rose an eyebrow at them. "So, did you two have fun last night?"

"Madre," Gerard yelled, "why? Jesus Christ!"

"Calma, it's okay. Just be happy while you are young. And you," she pointed at Sergio," don't break my son's heart again."

Sergio nodded, chuckling.

At breakfast, they all sat around the table. Gerard's mother told stories about Gerard growing up. Blood flushed to Gerard's cheeks. But Sergio found it cute, he kissed Gerard on the cheek. It was just so perfect.
