Chapter 1 - settling in

I walked down the drive of my new school. The head ordered for me to come earlier so she could talk to me about how things work in her school and that she is insuring that I won't feel like I want to leave due to bullying here.

'Morning.' She called, as I walked through to reception and she waited, talking to who I guess was a teacher.

'Hi, so Daniel, follow me.' She smiled, walking through to a large conference room, I sat down at one end, I guess this is where teachers all I have meetings.

She got herself a coffee and sat down opposite me, and she talked me through the whole basics of the school. I got given my timetable and she also gave me a school planner to record homework in and a map to help me direct round the school. We are only allowedon our phones at lunch and break time but if seen once the bell goes they will be taken off the student and kept for the rest of the day and the parent must come to pick it up,

'Ok- that's pretty much it.' She spoke after an hour of telling me things she already told my mum in a email. The bell rang to send everybody to there form room, she told me to wait a minute and she'd come with me.

We walked into my form room about ten minutes late. 'This is Daniel Howell. A new student!' She smiled.

'Its just Dan.' I groaned.

Nobody really reacted, I walked to where I got told to sit and slipped out my planner to fill it in.

'Hey- why did you move to this school?' A guy whispered poking my back.

'Moved from up north,' I spoke simply, not feeling like sharing the entire story- that I got bullied for being a gay freak.

'Ah cool- I'm Peej- nice to meet you!' He smiled, moving to shake my hand which I took and smiled. 'What lesson do you have first?'

'Uh-' I flicked to the page in my planner. 'Art- yourself?'

'Too bad- I have French, I can walk you to art though, it's on the way?' He smiled.

'Oh yes please!' I responded. I already liked this school.

'Phil Lester- stop with the talking please!' The teacher groaned to one of the students.

'But sir, Tyler was just telling me about how art could like- be the future!' He spoke sarcastically making the whole class laugh.

'Ah-Phil you are right there!' Sir began, making everybody sigh. Sir wasn't really one for making us do work, he seemed to just like talking about everything. So once the bell rang for the end of the lesson I couldn't wait to escape.

I walked out the door, greeted by two blue orbs in front of me.

'Who are you?' Phil asked.

'Oh Dan- Dan Howell I moved from up north.' I smiled.

'Right-' he responded, I turned to see Peej running up to me and smiling.

'Come on Dan places to go, people to meet!' He smiled pulling me away from Phil who looked at me smirking.

'Who's he?'

'Nobody you want to know- hey did you hear about the school trip they are doing?'

'No!' I smiled, 'what is it?'

'Something about going to visit Spain for a week! Sounds so cool!'

'Oh- we should totally go!'

'Yes yes and yes, but for now I need to introduce you to my friends-' Peej ran towards the canteen and I followed behind, we reached a table with all smiling faces and Peej started naming them, 'thats Louise, Zoe, Alfie, Marcus and Louie. I don't know where Maz has gone but he is also a bundle of fun!' Peej smirked.

They all seemed super friendly. 'Oh and this is- he is my boyfriend.' Peej smiled, towards a brown haired boy who answered to the name Chris.

They all seemed fairly nice and kind so I decided to stick with them, by the end of break they knew pretty much everything about me. Part from the being bullied but I thought that was a bit personal.

I had citizenship next, which was all about day to day lives and everything. Luckily Peej along with a few others where in my class so we walked in, slightly late and sat down near the back.

'So class.' Sir announced. 'As some of you may have heard from your form tutors, we are oohing a trip to Spain. The idea is that we will go for a week, your week days will be set as lesson like, you will be learning about how it is different there to hear and learn a taste of different culture. From 4pm till 7 you can do whatever and come back to meet for dinner at the hotels restaurant, then go back to do whatever until 10 and lights out by 11.' He smiled. 'On the weekend you can explore, we have a pool at the hotel so it's kind of a business holiday trip! Letters will be handed out at the end of the trip but it would be very benifitual to come as you will learn a lot about our topic relating to different cultures and Spain could be a helpful case study.'

'This sounds sick!' Somebody whispered.

'Yes- sick.' Sir laughed. 'But we don't expect you to work alone, you will be in partners, once we have the list of people going, we will arrange who goes with who.'

Everybody sighed a little before sir got back to the actual lesson.

'Oh here is a letter mum.' I smiled as myself, mum and Adrian stood in the kitchen,

'Spain? Don't see why not, get packing mr!' My mum smiled, ruffling my hair.

'Can I come.'

'I wish munchkin!' I faked a cry into his shoulder.

'I will miss you so much!' He giggled hugging me, 'now let's play some xbox and get violent!'

'Should have got him the wii.' My mum breathed, winked at me as my 14 year old brother raced to the TV room. 'Dinner will be ready in five.'

I checked my phone to see a text from Peej, we all exchanged numbers and I got added into a big group chat they share also.

- do you think you'll go on the trip? - Peej

- yeh, wbu? - Dan

- parents aren't that sure.. It's not exactly free - Peej

- well. It's due tomorrow as the teachers need to sort out the groups and book it for next month.. - Dan

- I know, hopefully I can go! - Peej

- I hope so too - Dan

I smiled putting my phone back, as Adrian's chosen game started. Today was a good day.
