The sun was coming up, I couldn't believe I had been here all night. My dad stared at me as I watched the sunrise.
"I guess you better go home now."
"You're not gonna come?"
"No. It's not safe yet."
"But, what about mom. She'll want to see you so badly."
"Please don't tell her about this. She can't know."
"How am I not supposed to tell her?"
"Please. If you tell her she'll start acting normal again. People will be suspicious. Especially the goulies."
"Ok. I promise I won't tell her."
"I'll come back someday. I promise I will." My dad leaned over and kissed my forehead.
"I guess you want your hat back." I said. My dad chuckled.
"You should keep it. It looks good on you." He tossed me my locket and stood up. "Goodbye Ava." He turned to leave. I could feel tears stinging my eyes, threatening to spill out. My dad walked away, to where I couldn't see him anymore. And in the silence of the new day I whispered, "Bye, dad."
