ADAGIO.
It was surprisingly hot for September. Not a cloud was overhead and the sky was a deep blue, making life seem a little easier to live and the road to London a little shorter. Hawkley had been shining in the light of the sun, and so had the Picot Farm and all the land, forest, lakes, and memories surrounding it. Every waking moment, Jackie had either spent with her brother, in the boat and by the lake, helping her father, hiking, or talking to Tiana over FaceTime. It had been a relaxing few weeks. Jackie had really needed those relaxing few weeks.
As she looked out the window of her family car now, London was rushing by. She was both excited for another year at Battersea, University of London to start, and dreading being away from her family again. Once again, she had gotten so used to them constantly being around her that her now living partly on her own suddenly seemed very weird. Thankfully she would be living with Tiana, Teresa and Annie. That fact was enough reason for her to be walking all the way from Hawkley, Hampshire and up to Clapham, London. This would be the first time her family would see her new house and even meet some of her flatmates that they hadn't already been introduced to (which really only was Tiana).
George pulled up on the outside of 9 Alfriston Road, the green of Clapham Common showing at the edge of the dead-end street Jackie would be living on for the remainder of her time at uni. The brown-bricked terraced house looked exactly like Jackie remembered it from months before when she had been to a viewing there. There was a small driveway and bricked fence where it wasn't to keep anyone who didn't live there out.
"This really doesn't seem real." Jackie's father said, looking at her in the seat behind his. "I'm helping you move into your second flat."
She smiled at him. "This is a house, dad."
"Potato, potahto. You're still moving."
Jackie laughed, getting out of the car as the rest of her family did. Edward was helped out with the ramp, and Jackie placed a bag in his lap before hoisting one onto her own shoulders. She was very glad she wasn't swearing a skirt today as carrying stuff would undoubtably make her skirt fly up and her knickers be put on show more than once. Instead she was wearing khaki paperbag waist belted utility shorts, a white linen blend shirt tucked into it, with faux snakeskin footbed sliders and her blonde hair in a ponytail, some of her wavy hair falling out in places. Taking hold of Edward's wheelchair, Jackie pushed him toward her new home, and then rung the doorbell. It wasn't a surprise when Tiana ripped the door open, grinning from ear to ear when she saw the whole Picot family stand on the doorstep. She opened the door into he window room leading to the actual front door, squealing a little.
