~Reyna~
I got to my feet and took in the sight before me. All campers-Greek and Roman-were staring at me in shock. Leo Valdez was standing next to a girl I didn't recognize. Almost tauntingly, Percy and Jason stood together, their girlfriends nowhere in sight.
Yup, the Gods were definitely taunting me.
"Reyna," Percy smiled, but I caught the tense look he quickly masked. "Welcome back." I nodded in acknowledgement, wanting nothing to do with the Son of Nep-er, Poseidon at the moment.
"Where is Annabeth Chase?" At this, the girl standing next to Leo walked to me. "I'm sorry, Annabeth isn't here at the moment. She's with Piper. What can I help you with?"
Ah, a daughter of Ve-Aphrodite. I would've snapped at her, but I saw a firm look in her eyes that told me she was not to be messed with. I wouldn't be surprised if she was one of their counsellors. The way she stood, the friendly smile, yet warning eyes, the confidence and beauty she radiated, everything screamed, 'leader'.
But something told me she wasn't this girl before.
"My name is Reyna," I greeted. "And yours?"
"Desiree," she smiled. "Desiree Kelsh. Do you want to talk after dinner or, should we take a walk while discussing what you came here for?"
If she wasn't a counsellor, I'd seriously have to talk to Chiron on putting up a suggestion box so I could fill in a letter about putting a blind eye to a potential leader right in front of him.
"Sure, let's take a walk." Desiree turned to smile at the three boys gawking at her and I fought back a smile at their expressions. I had good news, and this just made it better.
Desiree faced me again. "This way." She gestured to a path in front of her, and I followed.
"So, Desiree Kelsh," I smiled. "Tell me your story."
Without a moment's hesitation, she began.
How she never knew her mother, how she went through tough bullying from someone she called a friend, how she took her anger out on herself, everything just poured out. By the end of her story, I was ready to give her a hug, but I held back.
It wasn't like me to hug and get all buddy-buddy with someone. I had Octavian to deal with. Had.
"Reyna," Desiree had a small smile on her face. "Your turn."
I told her all about New Rome, the praetors, Octavian, Circe's Island, my sister, me being a daughter of Bellona, the-the rejection, Camp Jupiter being destroyed, everything. Desiree listened attentively, never interrupting and amazingly comforting.
Right, she's a daughter of Venus. They have that power.
"That's why I came here." Desiree raised an eyebrow. "To call back the Roman demigods?"
I nodded. "Yeah. Camp Jupiter has a chance of being rebuilt, and we need an architect. That's why I was hoping-"
"I'd love to help, Reyna." I jumped. When I turned around, I saw Annabeth smiling at me, Piper by her side.
