~Daniella
Banjo had turned towards me, his eyes flamming red. This boy had serious issues.
"What???" I yelled. It probably sounded like a squeak because I didn't feel as confident as he was. This boy was going to finish my life.
"Just stay out of my freaking way" he said shoving me aside and then turning as though he just remembered something.
"My guys may treat you like a princess or whatever but I see you for what you truly are. Just another pretty face to while away time. Stay out of my way Dani or I swear I'd do something you wouldn't live to regret" he stormed off moving his practice to the opposite end of the court.
So much for making friends.
I was about to let it slide but I didn't deserve this unfair treatment. I stormed off in the same direction he was headed and then pulled his vest.
Who was he sef???
He didn't turn though, he ignored me and went on to continue training the juniors. Never had I felt so humiliated.
I walked forward till I found a seat on an empty chair in a secluded area. My throat felt constricted and I fought back my unstable emotions. I couldn't really pick which one to be. Was I to be angry or sad? I sat there a long time staring at everything and nothing till I saw someone's arm waving furiously in front of my face.
"You okay?" Joshua asked his voice filled with so much concern.
"I'm good." I sighed "what's up?"
He studied my face sceptically and as though trying to decide whether not to pursue it any further, slapped on his widest grin.
"C'mon baby. It's time for the match. Let's go kick some proud asses" I didn't know whether it was the grin on his stupid face which by the way was contagious because I started to smile too or because he let me be. All I know is I stood up and followed him to where the rest of the guys stood.
To anyone looking, it felt as though I was confident and composed but inside, I felt like the sun should just melt me into oblivion. Josh intertwined his fingers with mine to stop me from shaking. His confidence rubbed off on me. Banjo, on the other hand, did not even bother to look in my direction as I slowly calmed my nerves. The match was about to begin anyway.
We all moved towards the benches where I saw Jennifer and my other roommates waving enthusiastically at me. I went ahead to greet them and sit there throughout the entire match.
Josh glanced in my direction, using his eyes to ask if I would be okay. I gave him a weak smile which he returned with a nod. He understood.
The match was about to begin and everyone seemed to draw their attention towards the court."Good afternoon!!" Benjamin said to the crowd which was met with a loud scream from the audience.
"So, today's basketball match will be between Team A- which is my team" he pointed at some boys in the corner who were dressed in blue "and Team B" theses boys were dresssed in red.
"This match will determine the set of people that would recieve a special treat from the principal since today's inspection ended in a tie" he said.
"Are you guys ready???" He yelled which was met with another round of screams and applause.
He left the middle of the court to allow the players to assemble on the court. As soon as the whistle was blown, the fiercest match of the century had begun. The blue team was lagging behind. They seemed to be attacking more than they were defending and the opposition seemed to be beating them hands down leading with 4 points.
I glanced in Banjo's direction just to see his expression. He seemed to be gritting his teeth together, he must have been mad. Although it wasn't supposed to be something I was happy about, it gave me great joy watching him stew in his anger.
At the end of the first half, our team was way behind. The team assembled for a group meeting.Benjamin and Joshua stood beside me with the rest of the team forming a huge circle round a hot headed Banjo who kept clenching and unclenching his fists as though he could expel his unwarranted anger through them.
The circle remained silent waiting for Banjo to speak. Surprisingly, he remained silent causing all of us to exchange astonished glares.
"If I may?" Benjamin said to put everyone at ease.
"You guys played like trash out there" Banjo said yelling and cutting Bejamin off at the same time.
How encouraging?
"Shut up!" Benjamin yelled at Banjo "The only reason they played that way is because you coached them horribly. Like what the hell, man? Why are you so angry? It's not the team's fault."
"So it's my fault now, ehn? When you guys allowed this imbecile to join our team, you didn't know. Now you're blaming me?? Me??? Abeg" Banjo scoffed, steam almost coming out from his ears. His eyes ata rodo red.
Wait oh! Is it me this one is calling imbecile? The nerve! He thinks he is the only one on the planet, abi? Spoilt brat!
I thought.
I was about to vocalise my thoughts when Joshua grabbed Banjo's shirt, his yellow fists already turning pink from holding on too tight.
"What's up, man? What's your beef with Dani? Ever since she came here you've been nothing but aggressive. Did the girl do something we don't know about?" Benjamin said while trying to pry Joshua's already pink fists from Banjo's shirt.
"Guy na! Abeg leave me! Let me beat him!" Joshua said his face pink with anger. He actually looked kind of cute.
"Who be this kid? You want to beat me? On top woman? Guy, you no try." He said laughing at an already angry Joshua.
"You see wetin I dey talk. This girl dey cause wahala. Una too dey free am abeg." Banjo said pushing Joshua into the sand and walking away.
Joshua who was on the ground for only a few seconds scrambled to his feet and dashed towards Banjo with all his might. As though anticipating it, Banjo grabbed him by the collar and held him in place. He looked all shades of furious. Joshua using every ounce of strength he could summon, threw a weak punch at his face. Banjo was about to teach him a lesson when-
"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?" A voice boomed from behind. The entire gathering went silent as we all turned towards the voice.
Surprise! The principal had joined the fight.

I'm horrible! Please forgive me😭😭. Alright, I understand that this is probably one of the worse chapters yet (don't crucify me, please). It seems my writing has gotten much worse but... please bear with me. I promise to write better. I know you guys wanted more action but that seems to be lacking too. To all those I promised updates, I feel really terrible about this. It's like I type a paragraph after reading all your amazing comments. To those of you that read and commented, you guys deserve trophies, for real. I've given up so much on writing but you guys build my confidence. Over 3k reads and my book is incomplete 🤧. Thanks for the love and support. More updates this year, hopefully.
Might edit this chapter later. Doesn't feel right.
