Thank You, MakenzieBudkeI was in Drive when Ms. Maclane said we had a new student. The boy stood up and waved so we all knew who he was. Ms. Maclane announced that I would be showing around the school. His name was Grygh Harper. The bell ranged announcing the end of Drive. It turns out he has the exact same classes as me. "I'm Alessa Nealan," I said.
"Okay, whatever," he answered.
Well I guess he must be the silent type. But why would his parents decided to move in the middle of his Junior year. "Why would you move in the middle of the school year?" I asked.
"I didn't want to move," he answered.
That's when I hear the bell before the tardy bell and started running through the halls. He grabbed ahold of my arm and turned me around. "Why are you running?" He asked.
"The bell just rang," I answered.
"No, it didn't, " he told me.
I looked down at my phone it only says 8:20 a.m. Class didn't start until 8:25 a.m. Why was I running? Why did I think the bell rang? Am I going crazy? "We better get going to Gym," I said.
We headed to the locker rooms. I showed him where to go and headed to the other locker room. The day continued on just like this. I showed him to the classes. By the end of the school day I showed Grygh all the classes and more.
I headed down the stairs in the front of the school when someone grabbed my arm and pulled me over. When the person finally let of my arm I looked up into their eyes. TO see Grygh letting go over my arm. "To answer the question you asked earlier," he said, "My mom sent me here to get me out of the craziness of my old town."
"What was happening?" I asked, "but if you don't want to tell me it's okay."
"Well there were 3 shootings at my old school the last week I was there," he said, "and I was in every single one. That's why my mom sent me away."
"Where do you live now? If you don't mind me asking?" I asked.
"At an apartment my moms renting from home," he answered.
"Why isn't your mom living with you?" I asked.
"She is working and is trying to find a job down here right now," he said, ''I don't know why I'm telling you this."
That's when I heard a phone ringing. I reached down and pulled out my phone but it wasn't mine. "Is your phone ringing?" I asked Grygh.
"There's no phone ringing, Alessa," he said.
"What?!?!" I said, "I have gotta go."
I said that remembering I need to get to work at Alice's Diner. I walked to my car and got in and started to hear a phone ringing again. I put my hands over my ears. Maybe it's just my stress with the science test coming up, I thought. The ringing kept getting louder. I heard a knock on my window and looked over to see Grygh standing their. I turned the key in my car and rolled down the window. "Are you okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, why?" I answered.
"You've been sitting there for 20 minutes with the vehicle off," he said.
"Crap," I whispered, "Yeah I'm fine. Bye."
I started to backup then Grygh said, "Wait can you give me a ride."
"Sure but I can only take you to Alice's Diner on Normount Street," I replied.
"Well that's where I'm going," he said opening the other door and getting in.
We got to the diner 10 minutes later and I was late to my shift again. I grabbed my bag from the backseat and ran in the diner to the bathroom in the back. I changed into my work shirt and got to work. I was serving section 5 today. I only had three tables to serve right now, but I knew it wouldn't stay like this for long.
An hour later I saw that Grygh was still here. I wanted to go over and asked why he was still here, but I don't have my break for another hour. If I could just try to switch tables with Catrina I would end up getting his table. "ALESSA!!!" The cook yell making me jump almost dropping the pitcher of water in my hand.

I got off of work late that day. It was around 11:30 pm. When I left I noticed Grygh was still there. I clocked out and headed out the door. I got in the car started. I was about to pull away when I noticed I didn't have my phone. I pulled got out of the car and went to grabbed of my phone off the back counter. On the way back out I almost ran into the door. Grygh grabbed my arm before I could. "What was that for?" I asked Grygh looking up."You almost ran into the door."
"Okay I need to get going, bye."
