Chapter 8

"Did I miss something here?" I hear Freddie's voice from beside me, reminding me of his and Stella's presence while me and Roger had been hugging for well over forty seconds now. I feel myself beginning to pull away from the hug and Roger loosens his grip on me, doing the same before we both turn to face Freddie who looks extremely confused, "Have you two met before?"

I shyly glanced at Roger, who smiled a minuscule smile before chuckling quietly, his eyes were sad and I felt my heart sink a little at the thought of how sourly our friendship had ended.

"We - uh, we met in secondary school," I answer vaguely, still not entirely sure whether I was entitled to answer for Roger in saying that we were best friends. I needed to talk to him properly before going into too much detail to anyone else about what had happened between us, even though it was such a petty and frivolous argument. Roger had nodded in agreement, keeping that same small smile on his face.

Freddie grinned smugly, but also had a look of confusion on his face, looking between the both of us standing in front of him, "Such a small world it is. That makes the introduction much easier, Roger, this is Stella, Stella, Roger," Freddie says, gesturing to Stella who stood next to him with a large smile on her face.

I stepped backwards so that Roger had space to shake hands with her, "Hi, Belle's friend?" He had a charm about him - he always had, he smiled at her.

Stella looked dumbfounded for a moment at the use of the nickname that he had for me, not realising that he was addressing me before a look of realisation was shown - and the fact that she was probably surprised at the charm and the deep blue eyes, "Oh, yes, roommates. We go to the same university."

"Ah," he mutters, letting go of her hand and stepping away - he glances at me again, drinking my appearance in.

Silence took over the space, no one knew what to say due to the unexpected meeting and the fact that there was a clear tension between me and Roger, who began to walk towards the mirror, swiftly trying to move it - to somewhat erase his doings. He then occupied himself by continuing to sort out the clothes that he hadn't before I had arrived with Stella.

"I am incredibly hungry, my dears," Freddie states, breaking what was becoming a very uncomfortable silence -

Roger perks up, standing straight after he had been bent over the remaining bits of clothing, "Me too, would you like me to pop over to the cafe?"

"Oh, you don't have to do that Rog, me and Barbara will go, won't we darling?" Freddie says, flashing a grin at me.

"Er, sure," I answer him, feeling slightly disheartened that I wouldn't be able to speak to Roger as soon as I would've liked to.
