~45. Lost~

Veronica's POV

Nessa had covered her head in my arms and wouldn't stop sobbing. She didn't let go of me because she felt so unprotected about what happened. I understood that she needed a shoulder to cry on and someone to protect her right now so I didn't let go of her until she did herself.

-"Nessa," I said wiping her tears that wouldn't stop streaming from her puffy eyes.

-"Roni, I... I can't believe what just happened. What am I supposed to do? I feel so lost right now." She said and burst into more tears. 

-"Shh... please try to calm down and forget what happened."

-"I can't Roni. Grayson almost... raped me. My own boyfriend. The person that I loved the most hurt me more than I could ever think of."

-"Why did this happen? Did you get into a fight or something? And did he actually..."

-"No, he didn't. Thanks to you." She said and gave me another hug. "He was drunk Roni, again."

-"What do you mean again?"

-"Remember 2 weeks ago when I came home drunk?" She said and I nodded. "Well earlier that day, Ethan called me and asked me to go by their place because Grayson was in a terrible situation. So I did. But when I got there Grayson was drunk and acted like a completely different person. He said some really mean things to me that hurt me deeply and that's why I went to the bar."

-"Nessa, why didn't you tell me anything about this? Is there anything else you haven't talked to me about?"

-"Yes." She said trying to avoid eye contact with me. Since I almost tried to suicide we promised that we wouldn't keep any secrets from each other and whatever bothers us we wouldn't keep it to ourselves. "When we went by their place to comfort them, a few days after Cameron's funeral Gray and I got into a fight. He said things he didn't mean to... again... and he accidentally pushed me making me sprain my wrist." Nessa said rubbing her wrist carefully.

She had kept all of these to herself for so long and I didn't understand anything. These past weeks must have been miserable for her and I wasn't there to help her.

-"Nessa, we promised we would talk to each other when we needed to. And you obviously needed to talk to someone all this time. I am sorry I wasn't there for you. But I promise I will never leave by your side ever again. I will always protect you, as the older sister that I am, at all costs." I said tearing up.

-"That is the cutest thing you have ever said to me. I love you, Roni." She said and fell in my arms.

-"I love you too Nessa," I said and moments later we pulled away.

-"What am I supposed to do now, Roni?" She said hiding her head in her hands.

-"Firstly I think we should talk to Ethan about this. He is the only one that can help right now."

-"No, not Ethan. I don't want to bother him with my personal problems. And I am afraid of ruining your relationship too."

-"Are you kidding? After what Grayson did, he has to help you."

-"Roni, I said no. Please don't tell Ethan anything. I will find another way through this."

-"Pff, fine. But you will break up with Grayson." 

Nessa was just standing there for a few minutes, without saying anything. Just thinking and processing everything that happened the past days.

-"I know..." She said trying to hold her tears back. "But I don't want to do this Roni. Grayson was the only boy that ever loved me."

-"I know, but that can't keep happening. He has treated you awfully these past few days and proved that he doesn't deserve your love. You have to end things up with him."

-"I will. Tomorrow. Just please don't say anything to Ethan. Promise?"

-"Promise."

~Tomorrow Morning~

Vanessa's POV

I woke up to my annoying alarm and immediately snoozed it. I didn't want to let go of my bed but I knew I had to. Today is the day that I will break up with the person that I ever loved and ever loved me back. Why does life have to be that fucking unfair with me? All these years I have been alone with only a friend or two and no one else. I finally found someone that made me the happiest person in the world, but life decided to take that away from me. 

After 10 minutes of trying to convince myself to get up, I finally did and headed to the bathroom. I freshened my face and then went to the kitchen to grab something to eat. Roni was already downstairs, waiting for me with a box of Krispy Kreme on the one hand and a Starbucks coffee in the other. 

-"Roni, why are you up this early? And what is all this?" I asked confused.

-"Well, I figured that today was going to be a tough day for you so I brought you some stuff to help you begin your day slightly better." She said with a big smile and handed me the food.

-"Aww, Roni. Thank you." I said and gave her a hug.

-"You're welcome. And before you go to Gray's place, I just want you to know that I am here for you whatever happens next. But it's something that you have to do and you won't chicken out at the last minute okay?"

-"Pff... I know." I said frowning.

-"Now go dress up," Roni said and I nodded. 

I went to my room and started looking for something comfy to wear. I picked a pair of leggings and a cropped shirt and headed to the bathroom to do my makeup. I looked at myself in the mirror for a while and decided that I didn't need to do anything to my face. Then I went downstairs, grabbed my car keys, and the stuff that Roni had bought for me, and after I gave her a kiss on the cheek I left.

My hands were trembling during the whole ride and my heart wouldn't stop beating out of my chest. I have never felt that much anxiety overwhelming me and I had started having doubts about what I was about to do. But Roni was right. This is something that I had to do and I will.

10 minutes later of driving I arrived at the Dolans' house. I took one deep breath and got out of the car. As I was walking towards the house I could feel my whole body resisting to move, but I managed to get to the door. I slowly raised my hand up and hesitantly knocked on the door. For a couple of moments, nobody opened up to me and I was about to leave when I heard a voice that I had missed calling my name.

-"Vanessa?" Grayson said with his rusty, but beautiful yet voice.
