Clary's PoV.
I sighed in horror as two girls around my age walked into my cell, one was holding some type of orange clothing while the other was holding a bowl of water. I cringed as they both harshly pulled at my hair and arms. After a few minutes, I ready to be led down to where I was going to be killed."Keep moving." A guard shouted as I stopped to look around the Gard and down at the courtyard. We walked down around hundreds of steps until we finally walked into the courtyard.
"Every month, the Gard holds a culling of it's death row inmates. Today, you have all been chosen." Jia announced as I eyed an inmate that I recognised walking towards her. As I was pushed into a cell with other inmates, he stood on a platform standing before Jia. "Charles Freeman, Ascend... You are guilty of colluding against the Clave with former Consul Malachi Dieudonné and of killing 12 Clave soldiers. Do you have any last words?"
"Long live the Circle" He spat, making me jump slightly as a few inmates in the cell cheered loudly.
"Turn to meet your fate." Jia announced as Charles turned his back on her. I gasped in surprise as he was set on fire until there was no flesh left on his body.
"Next, Trevor Hayes. You are guilty of violent assault on 13 mundanes..."
"Red?" I froze as I heard a familiar voice whisper into my ear. "Red, is that you? Relax, the cuffs suppress warlock abilities. I couldn't hurt you if I wanted to, not that I would. I heard what you did stopping Valentine's wish. You don't deserve this." Iris whispered again as I cringed once more as another inmate was set on fire."No one does. This is barbaric." I scoffed as I watched the guards push the burnt body into a hole.
"Even the barbarians weren't this cruel. After everything I've done, this is how it ends. Burned at the stake for not doing magic." Iris scoffed, I raised an eyebrow at her.
"What are you talking about?" I asked, confused as to why that would be a crime
"Consul moved up my execution because I refused to perform a spell for her." Iris spat as she stared hatefully at Jia.
"The Clave hires Warlocks all the time. Why ask you?" I scoffed.
"Because necromancy is my specialty. But even I know no good would come from resurrecting Valentine Morgenstern." She spat again making me turn to look at her quickly in shock.
"Jia asked you to resurrect Valentine?" I asked in horror. If the Clave wanted him dead so badly, why do they want to resurrect him? "Why?"
"She wanted to question him about a demon." She shrugged making me groan in realisation.
"Lilith. She tried to dig him up." I sighed.
"But I said 'I don't care if Lilith is the devil incarnate. Anyone is better than that Circle bastard. He took my Madzie away from me. Let him rot'" She spat, making me realise there's a way I can stop my death trial...
Alissa's PoV.
"Ah, that was fun." I giggled as I swiped the blood that had splattered on to my forehead. We walked out of the elevator, gaining Lilith's attention. "The weapon you requested. Should keep Simon busy for a few days.""And keep the Mark of Cain far from Jonathan's rebirth." Lilith sighed in content that Jonathan's rebirth is almost complete. I nodded to Jace and he opened the duffel bag he was holding. "Wake up." Heidi gasped for air and jumped out of the bag.
"Where the hell am I?" She spat as she bared her teeth and paced around the apartment.
"Somewhere safe. You're okay now." Lilith sighed again, but this time in annoyance.
