I took a sip of my champagne as I looked around at the opulence of the building, I was in. You came! Huh I said turning to see who was speaking to me. Oh hey Javon. You actually came to the dinner; I didn't think you would. Well your mother invited me she said that the league was throwing this in your honor. My honor he said nodding. Yeah, I said nervously sipping the drink again. You look beautiful! Thanks, you don't look half bad yourself. I do a little something he said looking over his suite. How did you get in here with all of those stairs out there? They have an elevator in the west wing, it was a little bit of a walk but better than trying to take the stairs. Wise choice I said. He looked around for a moment before looking back at me. Where's your husband? He couldn't make it, last minute recording session. Oh, artists just drop in like that?
Ever since that little run in a few weeks ago, I've tried to keep our conversations and social interactions to a minimum because I didn't want him to think that I was leading him on in any way. And when it came to my family, I would always cut it off before it started about my family to a minimum. I don't want him thinking or knowing anything about my family. His mom though would constantly pick at the situation and make little comments as if I didn't hear them.
They do but, it's okay I understand that his work is important to him, and I support him in that. But does he support you in yours he said giving me an intense look. Of course, he supports me in my career, he always has. If so, why isn't he here with you tonight? This has nothing to do with my direct career and as I said he's working. Hmph you'd think he'd make it to something important for you he said under his breath as if I didn't hear him. I let it slide because I really wasn't trying to argue with him tonight. A little bit after that we were seated for dinner and of course, they conveniently sat me at the same table with Javon and his mother. In fact, they sat me right next to him as if I was his date or something.
That dress is absolutely gorgeous his mother said looking at my dress. Thanks, but your dress is beautiful too. Oh, this old thing she trying to be modest, I just pulled it out the closet. It's nice none the less. Your husband couldn't make it tonight? No, he couldn't he had a last-minute work thing come up. That's too bad, what does he do again? He's a music producer and he has his own non-profit program for at risk boys. Music producer, they make a lot of money? He does well for his self, I mean given his age he works with a lot of influential people in the industry. It makes sense now why you took the job as the nurse. Come again I said tilting my head towards her. Well I mean he must not be making a lot of money so you are the bread winner correct? I sucked my teeth a little bit and tried to remember I was in public with no back up so I couldn't bust this woman in her face for what she just said. Actually, I am not we're equals in our marriage I said looking her. And I don't like how you are speaking about my husband in his absences. I am so sorry I should have never said anything, please forgive me. Mhm I said nodding I am going to go to the restroom before they bring out the food, I said excusing myself from the table to go to the lady's room and get myself together before I went off.
I let out a few breaths as I looked at myself in the mirror, before touching up my lipstick a little. So, you're Javon's fiancée huh. Excuse me I said turning to face this beautiful dark-skinned woman standing next to me. You're Javon Martin's fiancée she said looking at my hand? No, I am not! It figures he goes for Ms. Light bright with the straight hair. I am sorry, who are you again? I am Naomi his ex-girlfriend the one he dumped for your ass. Naomi, I think you are confused I am not Javon's fiancée; I was his nurse assigned to him by the league. Sure, you are, that's what all the players say when they show up with women like you. I am serious, I am happily married to someone else and not with Javon. Sure you are, she said rolling her eyes as she walked out the bathroom.
Ok god help me now cause these women are really trying my nerves tonight. I checked my phone to see if I had any message from Charli before going back into the dinner. I noticed that Naomi chick eyeing me from 3 tables over, but I shook it off and tried to enjoy the dinner.
