October 2015

As summer passed the days got a bit shorter each month and fall was upon New York. You had already put away your summer clothes and put your long sleeves back into their respective drawer.

You grew more and more restless. Villains were popping up all over the world, and you were constantly alone in the compound. The most interaction you had been getting was from Pepper or Happy when they visited you. MJ would occasionally text you, and you guys even hung out once.

She had started at Midtown in late August, and ever since she had been having piles of work plus she had joined the science decathlon team. You would kill to be able to get out of the house and do something, anything. You didn’t want to go to public school, you passed a high school education a year or two ago.

You researched requirements to go the school, which you could easily pass. But you only wanted to join the decathlon team, not have to be there 7-8 hours a day. Hell, you could go under a fake name too. You were sure your father could pull strings indirectly so they would let you.

Natasha, Steve, Sam and Wanda were on an intel gathering mission so your dad was home for the next few days. He was already playing some Black Sabbath and working on upgrades for...something. You weren’t exactly sure of what. He was always up to something.

You walked past the kitchen, grabbed a chocolate bar and went downstairs. Who knew? You might have to bribe him and FYI, he loves chocolate anything. You sent MJ a text telling her to have fun on her field trip and out your phone in your pocket as the elevator dinged, and the doors opened.

“Friday, please unlock the workshop door?”

“I’m sorry, but you don’t have access to that command.” she replied. You sighed and looked at your watch.

“Wednesday? Do your thing please.”

“Right away (Y/n).” after she said that the door clicked to unlock, and the black panels blocking you from seeing into the workshop were lifted. Your dad sat hunched over with an empty glass in his hand.

“I’m sorry boss, she hacked me.” Friday’s voice said from above you. Your dad lifted his head in confusion as you stepped in the room, his face groggy. It was already 10 am and he was having a drink.

You grabbed the whiskey glass off the bench and went to throw it away, but not before having a sip yourself. Wasn’t too bad, just needed a drink to mix it with. You then threw the bottle away, and turned back to your father. He looked like absolute shit, which was saying something.

“What the hell happened. Also, if I catch you with a bottle of alcohol near you again I’m suing.” god, you sounded like a mom. You put a hand on his back for comfort.

“Suing? I’m your goddamn father. And nothing happened, I’m just stuck.” you tossed the hershey bar in front of him on the table and sat down next to him.

“Well if you’re busy I can talk another time.”

“It’s fine hun, what’s up?”

“Well, uh, you know that girl MJ I’m friends with? She goes to Midtown High in Queens, and they have an academic decathlon team, and I was wondering if I’d be able to do it. Have you pull some strings.” your gut flipped as you anticipated his response.

“I can, but of course a fake last name and such. Wouldn’t you have to be a student there though?”

“Actually, I did a bit of research and I can join the team without being a student. MJ is the only person who knows my real identity and she hasn’t spilled the beans yet. I should be okay.”
