now, for the ninth time in the past half an hour, jeongguk couldn't breathe.
again.
every single head in the room sliced around to face the back where he sat, to face him, judgemental eyes piercing, boring, stabbing daggers at him, and quiet snickers and mumbles and exchanged dissaproving glances sent the small boy's heart into overdrive.
no, this wasn't how it was supposed to be. jeongguk was supposed to be the quiet kid at the back of class that nobody knew the name of and that nobody really paid much attention to; he wasn't meant to open his mouth, it simply wasn't the way that society worked.
he didn't really have social anxiety, so yes, perhaps he was being slightly over-dramatic.
but he hated being judged. jeongguk was a good kid, he had good grades and a good attendance and a good attitude to learning; he got all those things and respect off of the teachers without having to utter a single damn word in their lessons.
so why was it, that kim taehyung, this... new teacher (that was far too young to be a teacher) with a seemingly pretentious smile, a permanent smirk on his pretty face and the fiercest eyes he'd seen in his life was suddenly so interested in interrogating him?
and how the fuck does he know my name, anyway?
jeongguk opened and closed his mouth like a fucking fish, trying to force some words out but failing to do so; unaware of how to respond to taehyung's question.
"jeon jeongguk, how about your interpretation?"
it was a simple question, really, it'd take less than a goddamn minute to answer, after all it was all down to perspective. but jeongguk stayed frozen on the spot, cheeks burning in embarrassment, gaze transfixed to his desk, refusing to look up.
it was only when the snickers of the class grew louder, more... mocking, that jeongguk blurted out,
"it isn't confined!"
the class went silent.
gguk took in a shaky breath before meeting taehyung's gaze; taehyung shifted against his desk, eyebrows raised in surprise. but there was something else there, something he couldn't pinpoint from this distance- he could have sworn though, he could have sworn there was something else.
relief? interest?
hope?
his eyes, were weirdly comforting, as if they were silently beckoning him to carry on.
