the café was
foreign to jeongguk.

as though he hadn't
visited it just last week,
it's psychedelically
painted walls were
new to his eye, nothing
in the vibrant colours
seemed to be striking
him as they were before,
nothing seemed to make
his heart race like it used
to. he was feeling down
but he didn't know why.
the rain had long stopped
outside the murky glass,
he noticed this vaguely as the
duo took their seat towards
the rear of the dimly
lit coffee shop.
the boy watched absently
as soft, glistening sun rays
spilled like honey through
the quartered blinds,
beautiful and untouched.

but jeongguk didn't feel
the warmth of it as he placed
his hand on the wooden
table, tracing his small
fingers around the thin
grooves and dents that had
been carved into it.

everything about the decor
was splendid, perfectly
crafted as though it was
fresh out of a magazine.
it never seemed old to him,
jeongguk had enjoyed
countless beverages staring
up at the abstract geometric
shapes that were sketched
onto the ceiling, he loved
getting lost in their colours
and the way they fit together
in perfect harmony.

his mind was elsewhere, now.

taehyung's words rang
continuously in his head.

'its funny'

what did he mean
by that? was this a joke to
him- must be, he was
probably judging jeongguk
so much right now.
why would he even care
what jeongguk thought?
it wasn't like anne lister
was the only war widow,
he'd probably seen a ton
like it and thought nothing
special of it. jeongguk begged
to differ. he adored it so much,
he felt himself tear up at the
piece from time to time.

how pathetic, he scoffed
slightly beneath his breath.

"what would you like to
order?" taehyung smiled,
scanning the menu with
curiosity. was this all a
damn act? what was he
going to gain from it.
jeongguk wondered why
he'd even agreed to coming
here. if he didn't like what
jeongguk thought of certain
pieces then he wasn't sure
that they could get along
very well.

"banana milkshake." he
replied quietly, gently
kicking his backpack with
his small foot beneath
the table.

"good choice," taehyung
chuckled. ugh, fuck. why
did he have to be so hot?
it would be much easier to
let go of his lust if he was
ugly or unattractive as
awful as that sounded.

"yeah." jeongguk hung
his head, unsure of what
to say. he'd never had trouble
speaking around him. well,
not the stuttering, besides the
stuttering, he didn't think
twice about what he'd say
to the man. he always seemed
to listen.

jeongguk was certain he
still would. he'd listen to him
and give him that much respect
at least. but the subtle smirk
on his face suddenly made sense.
