Not Quite Human

Metallic mouth and buzzing brain.
Perfect nose and empty veins.
Constricted pupils and iron eyes,
That coldly watch the world go by.

A lump of lead living in their mind
That throbs and jitters and whines
And makes their life rather like hell -
Their ribs are like an endless well.

I do not know why it is this way:
Why they exist like this everyday
And never try to break the chain
That comes with the genius of pain.

Leering smiles and stilted speech.
If they would just look up and reach
Out for a human hand to hold -
Maybe then they wouldn't be so cold.
