there is a beauty

in white words and

glass-stained paragraphs -

in the doodles

that sleep on in the paper

of the dozing sky,

and the painted fingers

of early grass.

i forget how this works -

you are the perfect equation and

i do not dare put myself in,

for fear of ruining it.

there is a beauty

in your drooping head

and tired eyes,

watching people keep on

about unnecessary semantics -

in the rhythmless tap

of a bored pen against

faux-wooden tables, and

suddenly the class

isn't so dull, because you look at me

and your lips curl a little,

and you roll your eyes

in a perfect circle,

and my heart beats a little like

the tapping of your pen,

and my brain completely forgets

(again) how english really works.

there is a beauty

in the sleeping world outside

the classroom,

but there is even more beauty

in your vacant gaze.

how i wish

you weren't so very fond of

mathematics -

because i think the beauty in

a recurring number is that

there is no end to it,

and we just have to

keep travelling on

until the world collapses

and the words and paragraphs

decide that fullstops

are completely

and utterly

overrated
