Warning: Self harm and angst

Chapter 15 "Dismantling"

How can humans be so intelligent yet so stupid sometimes? In this world where male and female does not matter but the secondary genders take important roles in society. Alpha, beta and omega, these terms were found a few hundred years ago, originally used in animal kingdom researches but when the ancient scientists found similarities in humans' evolution, the whole world was changed.

Until the seventies, omega was only used for slavery and breeding purposes, these eventually lead to omegas came together and made a movement and protested all over the world, demanding to be treated equally. In nineteen eighty two, many countries started to change, laws for omegas protection were made, access to suppressants were made easier, omegas allowed to work.

Despite the changes, in terms of alphas and omegas natures, instinct always came first when they were in estrus period. No matter how smart or intelligent these humans are, they are all equally stupid when their instinct took over.

Alpha's nature characteristic is to lead and dominate, omega's suppose to submit, while beta, well, they're just there, living happily with other betas without worrying about ruts or estrus period.

Other nature characteristics of the secondary genders are how they mated to each other. For 'were' creatures like werewolves or werefoxes, mating bond is a very important thing because they mate for life, when one's mate died, he or she will follow suit. While in humans and other interspecies mates, one will not die when their mate died but it used to be impossible to severe a mate's bond especially if you are a fated pair. The researchers still don't know what made a couple as a 'fated pair' or some romantic fools called it 'soulmates', the term 'fated pair' is an easier term for mates that has compatible pheromones, they're matched in term of personalities, physical characteristics, inseparable mutual understandings, but at the same time these were not proven as true, there were so-called fated pairs that severed their bond and they easily found a new pair without any problems.

So, can you severe a mating bond? In World War One, a human omega lost her fated alpha mate in a war and tried to bond with another unmated alpha. She went through a tough pain from the lost so she seek advices from all sorts of supernaturals, experimented on witchcrafts then eventually found a way to severe the mate bond with the dead alpha. This practice nowadays is common amongst omegas but never done by people with high rankings in society because it's seen as a taboo thing to do.

Donovan Ricci could not sleep at all after having his mate seen his heavily drunken self fucking another woman in his own house. Evan Williams' bloodshot hazel eyes, brimming with tears, trembling while holding himself back from screaming. Donovan has been always a womanizer all of his life, he got caught cheating a lot of times and have received some bitch slaps too. But the pain he experienced from seeing Evan's hurtful face was agonizing, way more painful than any slaps or beating he had ever received.

The next few days was even worse, Evan refused to go out from Emily's room. Their working time has always been contrasted to each other, Evan has been leaving earlier for work every evening so that he will not see Donovan who just got home. When they met in the hallway Evan just avoid eye contact and pretended the alpha didn’t exist.

When Evan got off work, he would lock himself in Emily's room doing research on his sister's tablet. From one day, turned into four days, then now it's almost two weeks and a half. There were times when Donovan would initiate to talk to the omega but failed so the alpha decided to barricade the smaller man in the kitchen when he got off work one day.

"Evan, we need to talk," Donovan said as he stand in the middle of the archway in the kitchen, Evan was a few feet away pouring some water into a glass, his back facing away from the alpha. He could see his mating bite on the omega's exposed slender neck, and that brought pain into his chest.
