Monokerophobia

In which Rantaro's fear of unicorns is completely justified, the others just don't know that. Fed up with being mocked, he decides to show Shu what all the fuss is about. Now... Shu is afraid of unicorns, too. (Witchcraft AU.)

"Oh, come on, Rantaro!" Wakiya groans, rolling his eyes at the other. "Unicorns are not scary."

"They are too!" Rantaro defends himself even though his face is redder than my eyes.

"In what universe? My Little Pony?"

"I don't make fun of you for being afraid of heights!"

Wakiya stiffens, then his faces flares up bright red, too. "That's because it's a legitimate fear! Unicorns aren't even real!"

As they continue arguing I exchange glances with Valt and Daigo, then we watch as Daigo pushes himself up and goes over to the bickering couple, stepping between them. "Guys, calm down. Making fun of the things your boyfriend is afraid of isn't the best idea, especially if you don't want to break up with him."

"... Humph..." Wakiya huffs, glaring at the wall.

"Thank you, Daigo!" Rantaro sighs, his shoulders slumping forward. "Someone who gets it..."

I do wonder why he's afraid of something as innocent and harmless as a unicorn... I think, exchanging another glance with Valt, knowing he's thinking the same thing. But I guess it doesn't matter. It's not my business, anyway.

"How about you two agree to disagree, and drop it?" Daigo suggests after a moment.

"... Yeah, okay..." Wakiya nods.

"I like the sound of that." Rantaro agrees.

"Good." Daigo sighs in relief. After that, we simply start talking about school and Beyblade, being sure to avoid any sore subjects for anyone. Eventually, Wakiya, Valt, Daigo and Rantaro are called home, and we all part ways.

I... Actually don't hear anything about Rantaro's fear for a while. A few days at least, until he sends me a text.

Honcho: you wanna know why I'm
afraid of unicorns?

You: Uhhh... Sure?

You: If you really feel like talking

about it. ówò

You: I'll be here, no jugdment! x3

You: *Judgement.

(Rantaro) "Okay, when he was little, Ranjiro was super obsessed with this show called 'Joy the Magic Protector'."

Shu nods along, but he looks more confused than anything.

"In short, it's about a unicorn that goes around killing witches."

Shu's eyes widen and he gives a soft. "Oh..."

"Yeah, and once they're dead, it steals their magic." I shiver, wrapping my arms around myself. "The lighting always got all dark red, then it'd stab its horn into the body and chant this psycho spell. It was disguised as all fluff and rainbows, but I knew the truth!"

"What were the witches doing wrong, though?" He asks quietly, wearing a deep frown.

"Absolutely nothing! They practiced dark magic, yeah, but they were never hurting anyone! In the forty-ninth episode, they kidnapped the queen of witches and interrogated her- she swore on her magic that all her witches were sworn never to do any harm! Joy calls her a liar with no proof, then they keep her locked in a magic cage that looked like a glass bottle for three seasons!"
