Jareriel sat lone at their usual meeting place located in the middle of Parc Mero. Hours he had spent waiting for Damien to come but it was of no use. He paced around, concerned for his friend's disappearance. Had he been left to his own devices? Had Damien forgot about him? His stomach churned at the thought. He had spent the last few weeks cementing his friendship with the demon. Was this for nothing? These thoughts began to panic Jareriel. A warm palm rested on his shoulder as the sweet scent of musky cologne radiated from the stranger.

"I'm sorry I'm late..," He sighed, "Had a run in with the demons in my closet"

Jareriel chuckled softly as Damien sat down, confused, "What is so funny?"

"No glasses today?" Jareriel muttered, his laughter dying as he realized this was an honest mistake.

"Oh, fuck me!" Damien cursed loudly, covering his demonic serpent eyes.

"Deary me! Here, I was going to give you these to celebrate our one-month anniversary, but it seems like you need them now," Jareriel handed Damien a pair of black rounded sunglasses, case and cleaning cloth included.

Damien's mouth hung agape at the spectacular wonder. He slid them on with easy, adjusting them slightly to fit on his nose. He wrapped his arms swiftly around Jareriel, spooking the small man. Jareriel rested his arms around the fallen angel's broad shoulders.

Damien released Jareriel, a quizzical look on his face, "One-month anniversary? Isn't that a sappy mortal thing that couples do?"

Jareriel rolled his eyes, "Okay, one-month official friendship anniversary, happy?"

"Better," Damien smirked, lowering the new sunglasses, "Now, darling. I hate to do this to you but I gotta go. I don't know when I will see you again."

Jareriel, heartbroken by this revelation, became furious, "I knew you were going to abandon me, you good for nothing knave!"

"Now calm your ass down!" Damien shouted, "Do you think I want to leave? Stop being a little brat and think about someone other than yourself for once."

Those words stung like a knife through the heart and Damien knew he had hurt Jareriel badly. Damien glared at the innocent man in front of him, waiting for a response.

Nothing.

"I'm sorry you feel that way," Jareriel said after a long period of silence, "I will be on my way then."

Jareriel quickly got up and, before Damien could say a word, vanished out of sight.. Damien choked on his words. He never choked on his words before. It felt as though he was a mute. He tried to call out to Jareriel. He hated that he was not able to.

Dear Satan, have I gone soft? He pondered silently.
