The entire drive here had been miserable. You knew this move was necessary, but you really wish it didn't have to happen. You didn't want to meet new people or be in a new place, and the closer you got to Amity Park the more your anxiety grew. You felt a tap on your arm. You looked over at Johnny, who was trying his best to reassure you.
Everything's going to be okay. We'll figure this out.
Johnny didn't talk around anyone but you. Not even his mom and dad. But since you two had known each other since age five, you could easily understand what he wanted to say just by observing his facial expressions.
"I know, I just....I don't want to start over Johnny." You sighed leaning against the door.
I don't either. But we'll be okay as long as we stick together.
You smiled softly at him and continued to stare out the window. You watched building after building go by until you arrived at the one you would be living in. It was a tall brick building with a few windows scattered about. And next to it was an almost identical one, with a huge sign that read 'Fenton Works' screwed to the side. You wrinkled your nose and got out of the car. You and Johnny unloaded the few boxes you had into the new house and watched as the van his parents had driven you here in peeled away. You looked over at Johnny.
Not even a goodbye. Figures.
You hummed and pulled a note off of the door as you closed it.
So excited for you two to be here!
I'm working late so I won't be home
to help you unpack. Leftovers in the
fridge.
- Auntie Tilly
"Hmmph. She's my mother's sister all right. Wanna go unpack?" Johnny said from behind you.
"Ya. Which rooms are we in?" You asked as the two of you walked up the stairs.
"There's only one that doesn't have stuff in it." Johnny said as he opened the door into an average sized room with one window. You groaned and walked downstairs to the phone. You looked at the list of numbers on the fridge and called his aunt at work. After a bit of ringing someone picked up.
"Hello?" The voice asked.
"Hi. May I please speak to Tillia?" You asked softly.
"Oh hi sweetie! And please, call me Tilly." Tillia piped up from the other end.
"Uh, Tilly...What rooms do Johnny and I sleep in?" You asked holding the phone a bit further from your ear.
"I cleaned one out for you two?" She said with a sarcastic tone. You rolled your eyes.
"So we're just sharing the one then?" You asked, trying to stay calm.
"Yep. The beds are in there right?"
"Yes."
"Great! Have fun unpacking!" Tillia said before hanging up. You groaned, set the phone down and walked upstairs.
"We have to share the room." You growled.
"Figured as much. Which bed do you want?" He asked. You looked around the room. There were two beds on either side of the window, pressed against the wall. Other than that would be the two dressers you brought from home and your clothing and bedding. The room had bare white walls and short gray carpet.
"This room's kind of depressing." You said as you pointed to the bed to the right of the window.
"Ya. But we'll probably get used to it." Johnny said grimly as the two of you started to bring up boxes. After a few hours you had finished unpacking and were sitting on the couch eating Tillia's leftovers.
"Why couldn't we live with someone on your dad's side? Your mom and her family all suck." You grumbled. Johnny laughed.
"Ya, but my mother would never have let us go live with them. She won't even let dad speak to them anymore." He said with a resentful smirk.
"We should go on strike or something. Maybe start a riot." You said as you stabbed some mashed potatoes.
"Are you suggesting we start a union to start a war against Tillia?" Johnny said with a chuckle.
"Hey, it worked out for Abraham Lincoln." You said starting to laugh. Johnny laughed and stood up with a straight face and held a fist to his chest.
"I here by proclaim Tillia abolished throughout the United States." Johnny said making you burst out laughing. Johnny laughed with you for a bit before there was a knock at the door. Johnny immediately shut up and went back to his stoic self. You stood up and went with Johnny to the door. You opened it to see a large middle aged man in an orange jumpsuit, a woman who was slightly younger in a blue one, and two teenagers who you assumed were their kids. One was a red headed girl and the other was a thin boy with hair that was black as night.
"Can I help you?" You asked as you opened the door fully so that Johnny could see them.
"Hey neighbor! We saw the moving boxes and thought we would come welcome you to the neighborhood!" The large man in orange boomed.
"Oh. Uh, thanks." You muttered.
"I'm Jack, this is my wife Maddie, and our two kids Jazz and Danny." He said gesturing to his family. You looked at Johnny helplessly.
Introduce us. They probably mean well.
You looked back at the family.
"I'm y/n l/n and this is Johnny Cabot." You said copying Jack's actions and gesturing to yourself and Johnny. Jack grabbed your hand and shook it violently.
"Nice to meet you two! And again, welcome to town!"
"We'll let you guys get settled in." Maddie said as she moved her family off of your doorstep. You sighed and went to turn off the lights.
"Come on Johnny. We have school tomorrow." You said heading upstairs. Johnny followed you silently.
