As I walked towards Aries's car I heard a horn honk. Aries and his friends turned to the car to see my mother's rubdown van pulling over.

Oh no.

They all looked towards me.

"Sorry, that's my mom thank you for the offer though uhm- maybe next time?"

The girl in the back sighed.

"Ight, we'll see you then?" The darker male says with a smile

I nod "S-Sure"

Aries and I made eye contact with each other and instead of me being the one who breaks it he looks away patting on the streris wheel.

I walk to my mother's car and as soon as I sit the questions flood in.

"Was that the same boy who dropped you off last time?" My mom said looking at the car drive past us.

I sighed "Yes ma"

"What are you even doing on this side of Brooklyn?"

I tense up "I—"

"And don't lie to me"

I look at the bag of candy and come up with a terrible lie.

"M-Marco wanted some candy so I went to go get some for him, " I say,

She sighed "What did I say I told you I don't like you staying out too late especially around here"  She complained 

I nodded.

"And I thought you had an early shift at the market today?"

Yea. The market.

"I don't know why you would come all the way here for some candy when the market has candy and is much closer to our apartment"

"Okay, okay I'm sorry ma" I finally say

"You know this is nowhere a lady should be unless you a stripper or something"

I begin to fiddle with my fingers sensing I was doing something wrong.
