"Shifters can't kill me. Only other angels can."
Dean and Sam exchanged a worried glance. "Cas, you were human." Dean said slowly. "Remember?"
Cas looked at Dean doubtfully. "I ripped out my grace for you?"
Dean shook his head. "You, uh, might have thought about it, I don't know, but it was Metatron. He cut out your grace." Cas looked angry for a second, then sighed.
"I suppose that was going to happen sooner or later. I, um, don't remember anything past Metatron shackling me to a torture chair in Heaven."
Dean gritted his teeth as he remembered how cruel Heaven had been to Cas.
And Cas didn't remember all that time they had spent together, all those times Dean had failed him? Dean didn't know if that was a good thing.
"I bet your grace only holds the memories of your angel life. Your mortal soul held your human memories, and now that part of you is dead." Sam hypothesized.
Cas nods. "That would make sense. My mortal soul is probably in Heaven right now. Or Hell."
