I wiped the thought out of my head and focused on getting through the day “I bet you can’t wait until after school” Ellie said sarcastically

“Thanks for reminding me” I rolled my eyes “I’ve got to find another way to escape this time”

“I’m sure it’ll be fine, he’ll just ask about the normal stuff like work and grades”

“I really hope so” I sighed, the bell rang and everyone rushed out the door. Me and Ellie had Psychology first so we walked together through the busy corridor trying not to lose each other, as soon as we were a few metres from the classroom she almost exploded with excitement.

She grabbed my arm “Oh my God. Did you see the way he was looking at you?” she jumped up and down. I stared at her with wide eyes “You’ve had too much caffeine” I stated

“Don’t change the subject. He looked you up and down like he was stripping you in his head-“

“Woah!” I reversed the role and grabbed her by her arm directing her to the side of the corridor where I stopped her “I’ll pretend you didn’t just say that” my cheeks burned with embarrassment.

“Why are you so embarrassed? Most of the girls in this school would kill for him to look at them like that-”

“Because I don’t like him-“

“No it’s because you have never liked getting attention from anyone, you hate hogging the limelight. So as soon as someone starts giving you attention you flip and…”

“And what?”

“…I think after what happened with Ben you’re scared to trust anyone or let anyone get close to you”

“Ellie…” I sighed rubbing my temples “that’s not it, I don’t want a boyfriend okay.

This year is crucial if I want to get A’s and get a place at university. I can’t afford to get distracted and are we forgetting that it’s kind of against school policy and the law to have a relationship with a teacher.” I started walking and Ellie followed as we made our way to Psychology.

We were given work for Psychology, English literature and Chemistry so we ended up retreating to the library to do it all. The last bell sounded signalling the end of the day, three forty, twenty minutes before my freedom is snatched away and I have to spend fifteen minutes…in a room…on my own…with Mr Bates. I sighed and banged my head on the pile of books in front of me

“Do you want me to wait?”

“…no you’re okay. You go home I’ll be alright” I assured her, I just wish what I said was going to be true.  We finished off what we were writing before packing our books away and strolling down the almost empty corridors. I glanced at my watch as it turned four o’clock

“I’ll see you tomorrow” I smiled at Ellie as I stopped outside the classroom door
