"America."

The voice was miles away, completely drowned out by nothingness.

"America, wake up."

The nothingness faded and the voice gained clarity in my mind. Are they talking to me...?

"Mer."

I nestled into my pillow, wanting to be asleep again. I could already feel everything returning to the surface and I wanted nothing more then to be back in nothingness dream land.

"Girl, I swear. Get out of bed or I will force you out of bed and I promise you won't be happy about how I do it."

I flung out my hand, hoping to hit her, but only resulting in jamming my arm full force into the corner of my nightstand.

"Damnit!" I screamed, rolling over and hugging my arm to my chest.

Amara stood a few feet away form my bed, pupils wide and her eyebrows raised to her hairline.

"Ouch. That looked like it hurt."

"It did," I grumbled, examining my arm for damage and using my other hand to push myself into a sitting position. There was a big bright red mark across my arm, but no blood or anything.

"You could of just woke up," She shrugged. She sat on the edge of my bed, next to my legs, and tucked her feet under her.

"What are you doing here?" I sighed, reaching up to touch my head. My hair was a rats nest and I'm sure the tired dark rings around my eyes made me look like I had lost a fight.

"I thought we could have tea," She murmured. "Talk things through together like we used to."

"There's no tea here," I said. "And I don't really want to talk."

"The tea will be here any minute," She said. "And as for you not wanting to talk...well I don't really care."

I sighed. "Amara, I don't think this is something we can just make go away with some girl talk and citrus tea. This is the type of thing that I just need time for."

She pursed her lips.

"You've been through breakups before," I reminded her.

"Yes...and I get over them the next day."

"This is different. He only left yesterday and I feel like he's..." I trailed off, shaking my head.

She opened her mouth to say something, but there was a knock at the door. Amara rushed to pull it open.

"Thank you very much," She said to the maid, taking the tea. The maid nodded and went to walk away, but was almost hit by a guard walking by. The maid scurried off, but the guard stopped and peered into the room. It was Officer Avery and he bowed deeply as he noticed me in the background. I smiled weakly at him, cursing Amara for allowing someone to see me in my current state.

"Good morning, your majesty. Lady Amara." He hung on the last syllable of her name and I raised an eyebrow. Amara smiled angelically, looking up at him through sultry eyes.
