"Sansa this is...remarkable..."

Sansa stood proudly in front of Doctor Nox, letting him read her notes.

He flipped through the pages, his eyes unblinking as he frantically read them.

"I just- it just- wow."

She stood up straighter, her smile only growing wider at his praise.

He looked up, his own smile on his face.

"I've never trained anyone but you...I'm trying to decide if this is my good teaching or just because you are an incredible student."

"I don't see why it can't be both," Sansa said.

Doctor Nox's smile only widened.

"You have to consider traveling. I don't know what else I can teach you...you've master it all in just these past years...and even more...your knowledge of herbs exceeds even mine."

"I don't think the Alpha would let me go if he heard you say that."

Doctor Nox shook his head, "there's still so much for you to learn. At this rate, I can see you working for one of the larger packs."

Sansa laughed but realized the doctor was serious.

"No. I'm fine here."

The doctor only smiled.

"Well if your mate isn't here, you'll have to leave anyway to find him."

"Why is it the female?"

Doctor Nox stilled at her question, confusion falling over his face.

"The female?"

"Yes. Why is it the female that has to go into the world and find her heart? Why can't it be the male. Why does the male get to stay in their pack, sit nice and tight and wait for her to come to him?"

Doctor Nox only laughed.

"Because it makes sense."

He quickly shook his head at seeing the rising eyebrow of disbelief from Sansa.

"No no no, not like that. Most don't admit it out loud, but I'll tell you a secret Sansa. It is the females that are right to go out and find their mates. What do you think would happen if the males went?"

Sansa shrugged, unable to answer.

"Worst case scenario they would be unable to maintain their search long enough to find her. They would fall to temptation. Maybe encounter a female who was not their mate, but whom they wished was. That's not saying all males, but it has been known to happen."

Doctor Nox leaned forward, a sudden seriousness to his tone.

"But the truth is Sansa, the female is the strongest. The female is the one who can withstand enormous amount of heartbreak and pain- the one who will continue fighting for their heart and searching for it no matter how many packs they leave from empty-handed. The female is the one who has the endurance of a thousand. It is the female who carries the male upon her shoulder, to elevate him so others can see his face, but never know who truly made him so high in the first place."

Sansa took in every word, enraptured by the admittance of this truth coming forth from a male himself.

Doctor Nox smiled. As if he could read her thoughts. He nodded his head slowly. "Males don't like to admit this out loud. Females have no trouble in saying they can rely on another. But the fact is- do they really need to?"

"I..."

"Sansa. Listen to me. If you don't find your male in this pack, then you should leave. You really should. There is nothing for you here if you stay. Travel the world. Learn more about medicine. Meet other packs and along the way- find your mate. Find him and you will see what I am talking about."

Sansa smiled and nodded.

In a way, she already understood the meaning of his words.
