A well known legend...
There was a young man who walked the Spanish Maine Shores. He was of high profile and came from wealth. As he was walking along the shores where the waves washed to and fro, in the moonlight he saw the flash of a tail. Curiosity filled him as he took off his boots, rolled up his trousers and waded steadily into the rushing water to get a closer look. The wind blew and the clouds traveled rapidly in the sky. The young man held his hat and continued further into the wallowing depths, where he saw a woman. She was beautiful. Ethereal. She had long flowing hair, slicked back from the salty sea mist. She was singing, a song that rang out along the shores. A song for pirates ears.
"Yo ho, yo ho, a Pirates life for me.." she sang.
She was enchanting, drawing him closer with every note.

The young man shivered. He breathed deeply and edged closer to this magnificent being, intoxicated by her song. He was drawn to her. The moon light shone and brought out her features. High cheek bones, arched eyebrows, defined nose and a strong gaze. He called out to her, but to no response. Eventually, she moved closer, stopping where the water was shallower. He made his way down the bank. He was up close, when she put out her hand and took his hat. Handling it unfamiliarly, she put it on. A wide teasing smile enveloped her face. Her tail gently patted the rippling waters. The man was hypnotised by her, by who and what she was. And so from then on, every night he would meet her in the lapping waves under the moonlight. It was forbidden love that the two shared, and was soon put to an fatal end. The woman, a siren was captured in fisherman's nets and killed. She was disposed off and the young man was too cowardly to speak up in fear of more trouble, in fear of the public knowledge of his affair: She was thrown overboard and he watched the love of his life be washed away forever. Leaving nothing but a crying infant behind, cradled in a bed of rags and sea-moss, nestled in the rocks by the sand.
